Lord of the Mysteries Vol.

1: Clown
The meaning of the title Clown refers both to Klein's promotion to Sequence 8 Clown, as well as his
inability to withstand the vicissitudes, yet still smiling and continuing along anyway.

In this volume, a clown is established to mean those who cannot do anything about their fate, yet
continue to smile at it. Despite the many deaths that occur, Klein and the rest of the Nighthawks continue
to confront their fates without becoming despondent, fulfilling the meaning of Clown.

In the early morning of June 28, 1349, Klein Moretti committed suicide, and left some writing on a
notebook that said: ‘Everyone will die, including me.’

Zhou Mingrui, who used the Luck Enhancement Ritual on the earth transmigrated into Klein's body,
but the inherited memory was incomplete.

After trying to return to the earth through the luck enhancement ritual, he entered The Gray Fog, a
mysterious space.

He then accidentally summoned Audrey Hall and Alger Wilson above the Gray Fog.
Klein posed as "Mr. Fool" and established the Tarot Club to share and sell information
and Beyonder ingredients.

Because of the Antigonus Family’s Notebook, Klein joined the Blackthorn Security Company a
division of Nighthawks as a civilian staff and shortly after became a Beyonder of the Fool Pathway.
According to one of Roselle's Diary entries, Klein learned about the Acting Method and advanced to
Clown through the church.

While in the Nighthawks, he encountered many coincidences all in a short span of time. Despite getting
some idea that these coincidences were unnatural, it was too late for him when Ince Zangwill, the
mastermind behind all the coincidences, caused the True Creator's spawn target Klein with Sealed
Artifact 0-08.

He was killed along with Dunn Smith but mysteriously resurrected. Afterward, he moved
to Backlund in a bid to get stronger and further improve his sequence, waiting for revenge.

True Creator's Spawn in Tingen City
The Descent of the True Creator's Spawn is an event where the True Creator's Spawn attempted to
descend on Tingen City, prompting the Nighthawks of the Tingen City diocese to fight and exorcise it.

History
Sirius Arapis, Hanass Vincent and Lanevus were members of the Aurora Order, together, they planned
a ritual for the descent of the True Creator. Lanevus's fiancée, Megose, was chosen as a sacrifice.
Lanevus met Hood Eugen, and they collaborated to deceive Megose and use her as a medium for the
birth of the True Creator's Spawn.
Behind the scenes, the entire situation was according to the arrangements of Ince Zangwill, who
used Sealed Artifact 0-08 to manipulate the chain of events and the people involved.[1]

Prelude
During their investigations, Leonard Mitchell and Klein Moretti discovered a letter left behind
by Lanevus,[2] detailing a bomb that would grow stronger until it destroyed the entire city of Tingen.
Despite initially suspecting it as a swindler's provocations and deception, Klein and Leonard filed a
report with the Blackthorn Security Company.[3]

Soon after, a very pregnant Megose was compelled to visit the Blackthorn Security Company. Klein
Moretti's attempt to use Spirit Vision on Megose was stopped by his own spirituality, warning him that
he would die if he looked. At the same time, Leonard also noticed Megose's dire abnormality. They
both deduced that Megose was carrying the spawn of the True Creator in her womb[3] and made efforts
to stall for time.

Klein immediately reported his discovery to Dunn Smith, who ordered Klein to evacuate the building
while Leonard distracted Megose. Requesting help from the Holy Cathedral, Dunn also sent a telegram
to the Machinery Hivemind and Mandated Punishers on Klein's suggestion, as the latter were the ones
originally investigating Megose.[4] Dunn then took out Saint Selena's Ashes, which was the core seal of
Tingen's Chanis Gate, while Klein took Sealed Artifact 2-105 for Leonard to use. He also sent a letter
to Azik Eggers for help. Seeka Tron and the Keepers were left to deal with the rebelling Sealed Artifacts
behind Chanis Gate.[5] Meanwhile, Leonard entertained Megose, who became increasingly agitated and
began to mutilate herself.

Before the battle began, Dunn remembered that Daly Simone told him to explain himself to Klein
Moretti, confirming his current state. He revealed the Law of Beyonder Characteristic
Indestructibility to Klein, and how he absorbed the Beyonder characteristics of his deceased teammates
because he couldn't bear to part with them. When Leonard told them that they must now fight Megose
and her child, the three shared a short emotional moment before Dunn first confronted Megose.[6]

Battle
Dunn Smith confronted Megose, who immediately sensed the danger Dunn and Saint Selena's Ashes
posed to her child. She mutated into a gross monstrosity, releasing destructive soundwaves affecting
even Klein and Leonard who were in a different room. Dunn opened Saint Selena's urn, revealing a
deep darkness and fine resplendent sand and unleashing darkness and countless black, cold and smooth
tentacle-like threads to restrain Megose and seal her child. After counting ten seconds, Leonard and
Klein came out, using their respective Sealed Artifacts to fight Megose and stop her from attacking.[7]
As Megose continued to mutate, Leonard used the Blood Vessel Thief to steal her ability to speak,
halting her Blaspheme Curse. Klein used a Flaring Sun Charm imbued with half of his spirituality,
blasting Megose with a spherical light with countless flames spiraling around it and shaking the entire
building and the nearby streets. However, Megose survived and gravely injured Klein, who barely
dodged her attack. Leonard attempted to use Megose's own stolen Blaspheme Curse against her, but
Megose made her head explode, escaping the Curse before turning into a projectile that sent Leonard
to a wall, collapsing it and knocking him out. Before Klein could use another Flaring Sun Charm, the
True Creator's Spawn's cry sounded in the room.[7]

The True Creator's Spawn began to descend in order to help its mother, and its cries were harming Dunn
and Klein. Dunn generateed tentacle-like objects as he used his Nightmare powers to save Klein from
Megose. Megose easily made Dunn's objects explode, who expected the ensuing blood splatter to
strengthen Saint Selena's ashes. However, the True Creator's Spawn still suppressed the ashes' tentacle-
like threads.

In order to strengthen Saint Selena's ashes, Dunn Smith ripped out his own heart and sacrificed it to the
ashes, allowing Megose and her child's influence to be completely sealed. Klein then used his last
Flaring Sun Charm to completely incinerate Megose and exorcise the True Creator's Spawn. Dunn
Smith smiled at Klein, telling him, "We saved Tingen," before succumbing to his injuries.[8]

Aftermath
After Dunn's death, Ince Zangwill, the mastermind behind the scenes, entered the scene by striking
Klein Moretti's heart, killing him almost instantly, and stole Saint Selena's ashes. [8] It is revealed that
Ince, a former Archbishop of the Church of Evernight, used Sealed Artifact 0-08 and targeted Dunn
Smith in a conspiracy to steal the Ashes, and was responsible for the many coincidences in Tingen.
Later, he successfully advanced from Sequence 5 of the Death Pathway to Sequence 4 of the Darkness
Pathway.[1]

Leonard waked up to find Dunn's and Klein's corpses, crying in frustration as the Machinery Hivemind
and Mandated Punishers arrived.[8] After finding out about Ince Zangwill, a vengeful Leonard decided
to apply to join the Red Gloves, vowing to become strong enough to hunt down Ince Zangwill.[9]
Without the core seal, the Sealed Artifacts in the Chanis Gate were uncontrollable. Seeka Tron and the
Keepers were doing battle against a portion of the Sealed Artifacts. This led to an elderly Keeper's death
in the line of duty.[9]

Leonard personally informd Benson and Melissa Moretti of their brother's death. The Moretti siblings
received bereavement compensation of about 6,000 pounds. Dunn Smith's and Klein Moretti's burials
were held on the same day at the same cemetery. Azik Eggers visited Klein's grave, lamenting that he
was ten minutes too late. In that same night, Klein Moretti mysteriously resurrected.[9]
Klein mourned by Dunn Smith's grave. Above the Gray Fog, Klein divined Ince Zangwill as the enemy
mastermind, as well as Ince's and Lanevus's location and the place where Klein could find opportunities
to become more powerful, all of which pointed to the Capital of Capitals, Backlund. After some
preparations, Klein watched Benson and Melissa one last time, and while disguising as a clown in a
circus, gave Melissa a seville chrysanthemum.[10]
