Module 3 (EARTH AND MOON)

NOTES:

EARTH:

 It is the third nearest planet to Sun.

 It is the fifth largest planet in the solar system.
 It is called a unique planet.
 It is known as blue planet.
 It has a shape known as geoid.
 It’s 2/3 rd is covered with water.
 It hosts not just life, but intelligent life, makes it doubly unique.
 It’s intelligent life (humanity) has even developed rockets that enable
travel beyond the planet.
 It has only one natural satellite named moon.

Unique planet:

 It has sufficient amount of water.

 It has the protective layer of atmosphere, which has life supporting
gases like oxygen.
 It is neither too hot nor too cold, perfect temperature to support life.

Geoid: The shape of Earth is called geoid: it bulges in the middle and flattened

at poles.

 Earth has only one natural satellite.

 It’s name is moon.
 It is the closest neighbour of Earth.
 It’s diametre is ¼ th of Earth.
 It is about 3,84,400 km away from Earth.
 It moves around Earth in about 27 days.
Pg 2

 It doesn’t have conditions to support life.

 It has mountains, plains and depressions on it’s surface.
