1.0 Introduction The Hass avocado variety is
the most popular East Africa avocado for
export because it enjoys a good market in
Europe as compared to the other varieties.
Hass is originally from Guatemala and one of
its most prominent features is that it turns dark
purple when ripe. The fruit grants the
following benefits which generally apply
across the family of avocados: They are high
in protein and mineral content, compared to
animal protein. Avocados are an essential
source of good cholesterol. They are used in
cosmetics, for example, in the manufacture of
facial and hair oil. Economically, they are a
good source of income for farmers besides
earning foreign currency for the country
especially Hass avocados. Avocado growing
is largely a permanent investment and,
therefore, there is need for careful planning
before venturing into it Hass avocado farming
in Uganda has the potential to make you a
millionaire if only one can have the patience.
It is not one of those get rich quick business
ventures that you can just stroll into. Very few
people in Uganda understand the profit
potential of the avocado farming business,
hence the reason for the few avocado farmers.
This proposal is to guide our farming
company on how to start a commercial
avocado farming business in Uganda.

loams with pH ranging from 5 - 7. Take for
example an employee aged 40 years, and
earning an average of 1,500,000 Uganda

In Uganda, the growing demand for fruit both
domestically and internationally has forced
several farmers to forego other crops like
maize to concentrate on avocado. The demand
for the fruit has seen tremendous growth
expanding by 88.2 per cent in 2016. In the last
three years, fruit exports grew by 315 per cent
and expanded by 1005.6 per cent in the last
five years. In 2016, Uganda earned $1.91
million (about Shs 7.2 billion). This figure
could well be over $5 million (about Shs 18.7
billion) today, according to one marketer.
Ugandan avocado is exported dry or fresh.
