Your programme
You will study eight required modules, four
elective modules of your choice, and have the
option to undertake either a strategic consult-
ing project or dissertation.
Eight required modules
You’ll start your year by building a solid
foundation in business fundamentals through
your eight required modules. Covering key
subject areas in management, business,
leadership, and social and environmental
sustainability, you’ll gain the tools, confidence
and big picture vision you need to leap to the
next level of your career.
Cultivating a global mindset is your key
to operating successfully in the world of
international business. So, in addition to your
required modules, you can start building your
global tool kit by choosing to study an optional
non-credit foreign language module.
Three elective modules plus one
international elective module
Whether you’re interested in strategy,
entrepreneurship, marketing, leadership,
digital transformation or international
business, you’ll find a wide range of elective
modules on offer so you can customise your
MBA to your personal aspirations.
During your studies, you’ll need to gain
practical and valuable exposure to
international business. So, one of your
elective modules will be a required overseas
module at one of our educational partners.
These modules are all bespoke and designed
specifically for WBS students, covering areas
such as sustainability and digital innovation.

Strategic consulting project
or dissertation
Having the opportunity to put into practice
everything you have learnt during your
MBA is essential. Towards the end of your
studies you’ll have the choice to undertake
either a strategic consulting project
or traditional dissertation.
Your strategic consulting project will see you
working for a real organisation, alongside a
small team of your peers or individually, for
ten to twelve weeks over the summer period.
Your project will provide you with hands-on
experience of consulting on a specific business
challenge in an industrial, commercial or
public sector organisation. This is your
opportunity to consolidate everything you
have learnt and apply it to a real business.
Academically, it tests your ability to apply
your learning to real management issues.
Professionally, it may well open the door
to your next career move.
Alternatively, you can choose to undertake a
dissertation. Although more academic with a
focus on theory, it’s still highly relevant in the
world of business. It’ll demonstrate that you
can assimilate your learning, take multiple
perspectives on a business issue and explore
your subject thoroughly.
Specialise in entrepreneurship
Alongside the MBA’s core backbone of
building all-round business acumen, you
can choose to focus your MBA within
entrepreneurship by studying two of your
elective modules and basing your dissertation
within this area. You’ll gain a letter of
acknowledgment from the Dean of Warwick
Business School to confirm your success in this
specialist area.
The entrepreneurship specialism will enable
you to make calculated decisions between
seizing opportunities and managing risk.
Whether you want to set up your own business
or develop your entrepreneurial mindset
within a large corporate or an owner-managed
business, we will equip you with the innovative
skills to find creative solutions to day-to-day
problems.

Your LeadershipPlus experience is a personal

change journey that underpins the rest
of your MBA, ensuring you continue to
develop confidence and the ability to
achieve your career ambitions whilst
driving positive change as a leader.

A unique approach to leadership

The ability to manage yourself, understand
what your values are and then translate that
into how you operate is your key to leading
successfully. Through a series of experiential
workshops, lectures, seminars and case studies,
the LeadershipPlus module enables you to
reflect on what you personally stand for. It will
also prepare you to lead, manage and influence
other people successfully in today’s complex,
cross-border, multicultural environment.

Putting it into practice

You’ll also have the opportunity to apply
and develop your leadership skills within a
live business context. Working within a group,
you’ll undertake a client project over a period
of nine weeks with a corporate, SME or not-for-
profit organisation. Together you’ll investigate
a current business issue and present practical
recommendations to the problem posed.

Gabriela Murillo
Senior Manager of Banking and Capital Markets
at Genpact
With a career in the oil and gas
industry, when Gabriela Murillo had
an urge to explore new opportunities
and industries, she looked into pursuing
an MBA. The career support at WBS
made it the perfect option to support
her journey.
What did you do before embarking
on your MBA?
I have over five years of experience in the
oil and gas industry. My career began
in the operations department where I
coordinated the logistics of cargo vessels
for import and export trades. I was then
promoted to the trading desk, where
I oversaw the Mexican distillates’
imports strategy.

What prompted you to study an MBA?
Doing an MBA is something that I’d had
in mind since I was a teenager - the only
question was where and when to complete
it. I knew that if I wanted to be an impactful
leader, I had to upskill myself. Although I
really enjoyed my job, I wanted to explore
a different industry but I was not sure
where to start. I knew it was the right
time for me to pursue my MBA despite
the challenges of a pandemic, so I did my
research and WBS offered all the support,
tools, and modules that I was looking for.
How have the CareersPlus team
supported you?
While I was doing my research on different
universities, what really caught my attention
was the CareersPlus support WBS offers
even after completing your MBA. The team
was incredibly encouraging and helped
me maximise my professional potential by
offering candid feedback and pushing me
to explore how I wanted to shape my career.
Post MBA, have you realised your
career aspirations?
I realised I wanted to pursue a career in
consulting after completing my dissertation
project with a management consulting firm;
I enjoy working in dynamic and challenging
environments. During my Partnership
in International Management (PIM)
exchange, I took a course on ’Performance
and Progress’ which helped me realise
that I wanted to lead transformation in
organisations from a progress perspective.
What plans do you have
for the future?
In addition to continuing to improve my skills,,
one of my goals is to continue adding value
to the transformation processes of my clients.
In the mid-future, one of my goals is to launch
a non-profit organisation for abused women.
Career case studies
Max Frank
Senior Manager of Sustainability Solutions
at Capgemini Invent UK
Looking to start a new career path in
sustainability, Max Frank was searching
for an MBA with the ability to focus
on sustainability. Since completing the
programme Max has been able to make
a career “triple jump” - a pivot
in geography, sector and role.
What did you do before embarking
on your MBA?
Prior to the MBA I worked in software sales
and business development in the US, most
recently in Austin, Texas. The software I
worked with helped organisations increase
efficiencies, engaging with clients across the
commercial real estate, construction and
infrastructure sectors. My day-to-day consisted
of virtual and in-person client engagement,
demonstrating the value of our software
to key stakeholders, from project managers
up to the c-suite. This experience certainly
helped me develop strong interpersonal
and business negotiation skills, but one
thing was missing – passion behind my work.
What prompted you to study an MBA?
Around 2015, I first began to develop
a true interest in sustainability and its
applications in the business world. During my
undergraduate studies I had taken an interest
in international relations courses, but at the
time of graduation I wasn’t able to translate
this into a tangible career path. In the years
leading up to my MBA, I began researching
individuals who were working in sustainability
at the global business level and most of these
people had something in common: an MBA.
The idea of returning to academia began to
grow more and more appealing, thus I began
my search for a programme that would allow
me to find fulfilment and success in a career
that truly spoke to me. WBS’s MBA was ranked
at the top of several global lists for MBAs
with the ability to focus on sustainability,
and the people I met during the interview
process were in line with my values as well.
How have the CareersPlus team
supported you?
The CareersPlus team began helping
me before I even began the programme
connecting me with MBA students from the
prior year. These connections helped me
build a network as I came into my studies,
giving me a boost in having career-related
conversations from day one. The workshops
and seminars also supported the development
of my skills in customising my CV, to leverage
the WBS and larger LinkedIn networks, and
to negotiate salary. These tools helped me
in reaching out to alumni and initiating
conversations which later led to me accepting
an offer.
Post MBA, have you realised your
career aspirations?
The WBS MBA enabled me to make
the career “triple jump” as they call it – a pivot
in geography, sector, and role – and I secured
a role doing just what I aspired to do before
and during my studies, and at a rather
high level of seniority as well. My abilities
and confidence to carry myself and
conduct business at this next tier of
professionalism were honed during the
MBA. I rarely have a day that I don’t find
myself using the tools I picked up at WBS.
What plans do you have
for the future?
I aim to continue developing my business
and sustainability skillset in consulting,
and to incorporate more of some of my
favourite coursework from the MBA:
strategy. Sustainability and net-zero are
becoming more and more a centre piece
in overarching company strategies, and I
aim to get into the room with the leaders
carrying out these complex and challenging
conversations. Beyond that, I see several
potential paths to shoot for, from global
sustainability partnerships, to sustainability
leadership within an organisation, or perhaps
to a career of sustainability consulting,
breaking off on my own at a later date.

part of one of your elective modules you’ll
undertake a compulsory trip to an overseas
partner institution.

Extend your studies abroad
Once you complete your MBA, you’ll have
the opportunity to compete for a place at an
overseas business school. If you’re successful,
you’ll be able to extend your studies by as
much as four months through our ‘Partnership
in International Management’ membership.
This is an ideal opportunity for you to
experience another culture and further
develop your global mindset. Modules taken at 1
the exchange schools will not count towards
your final grade, however you’ll usually receive 3
a transcript from the host school detailing
your results.

which is accredited by Investors in People
(IiP). For a one-off fee, this two-year global
mentoring programme and series of
workshops and webinars matches students

Scholarships
Our scholarship offering has been designed
to promote excellence as well as support
diversity and inclusion. This helps to create a
rich learning environment within each of our
cohorts to ensure your learning experience is
maximised.
We take a holistic approach when evaluating
a candidate’s suitability for a scholarship and
applications will be assessed on the following
criteria:

■ The ability to fulfil future ambassadorial

Scholarships are awarded on an ongoing basis,
so applying early may give you a stronger
chance of being successful. For Full-time MBA
applicants, scholarships of between 10% and

Available for Warwick alumni who possess a

wish to apply for a scholarship in addition
to the loyalty discount, please complete the
scholarship essay as part of your application,
aligned to one of the categories outlined
above. The total award, if successful in your
application, will be up to 50%.
Please note that all alumni from the
University of Warwick who are accepted onto
a postgraduate Masters course receive a
minimum 10% scholarship from the Warwick
Alumni Discount Scheme and any alumni
scholarships awarded by WBS are inclusive of
this award.
Bursaries
A number of bursaries are available to
candidates experiencing economic hardship
for reasons beyond their control. For example,
severe economic downturn in an economy,
domiciled in countries in conflict or holding
refugee status. Bursaries will be discretionary
and awarded to high potential candidates
that can add value to our diverse cohorts.

a scholarship, you need to submit a written
statement (up to 500 words) with your
application referencing which scholarship
you are applying for and outlining why
you believe you should be awarded the
scholarship, taking the criteria listed in the
first column of this spread into consideration.
The scholarship committee decide on
scholarship awards on an ongoing basis
during the recruitment cycle but applicants
