WORLD LITERATURE
BSED 2-2 PROF. : JOSEPHINE JIMENEZ

Persian literature is a rich tapestry woven over centuries, spanning various genres and themes. It emerged
around the 9th century, flourishing during the Islamic Golden Age. Key periods include the classical era,
dominated by luminaries like Ferdowsi, whose "Shahnameh" (Book of Kings) stands as a cornerstone of Persian
culture, chronicling the history of Iran.

The mystical tradition, epitomized by Rumi's "Masnavi" and Hafez's lyrical poetry, delves into themes of love,
spirituality, and the human condition. Modern Persian literature encompasses diverse voices, from the
existentialist works of Sadeq Hedayat to the feminist writings of Forough Farrokhzad. Throughout its evolution,
Persian literature has reflected societal shifts, cultural values, and the enduring spirit of creativity in Iran and
beyond.
