Jesus (pbuh) Will Protect Believers

from the Antichrist

The concept of the Antichrist, which means "liar and cheat; the one who confuses
good and bad, as well as truth and superstition in the people's hearts and minds; who
gilds the surface of things and conceals their true nature; the evil and inauspicious one
who travels to all places," is described as a person who will appear in the End Times
and who will be the source and representative of all evil and strife. However, the
Antichrist may not actually be a human being; rather, this person may be a system or an
ideology that represents a way of thinking or practice that is against religious moral
values. Many hadith contain a great deal of information about the Antichrist, and
several verses refer to the Antichrist's morality and system. This individual's emergence
is reported as being one of the End Times' major signs:
Abu Hurayra narrated: "There are three things that, when they are manifested,
will be of no benefit to the faith of a person who did not have faith before: the
Antichrist, the Beast, and the Sun rising in the west."11
Abu Hanifa said this about the hadith that refer to the Antichrist and other signs:
The emergence of the Antichrist and of Gog and Magog is a reality; the rising of
the Sun in the west is a reality; the descent of Jesus (pbuh) from the heavens is a reality;
and all the other signs of the Day of Resurrection, as contained in authentic traditions,
are established realities.12
In addition to the signs of the Antichrist's coming, the hadith also reveal his
characteristics in considerable detail: The Antichrist will cause people to turn away
from the true path, portray good as evil and evil as good, deceive those who follow him
with so-called blessings, oppress those who fail to obey him, wreak confusion upon the
world, encourage conflict, oppose religious moral values, and seek to turn people away
from those values. The Antichrist's time on Earth will be one when true believers
experience many troubles and difficulties, and when most people turn away from
religious moral values.
The Antichrist's emergence will have a profound effect on the whole world, and
will be the source of developments that will inflict many catastrophes and troubles upon
humanity. Since his main target will be religious moral values and true believers, the
period in question may be a particularly difficult one for the believers. In addition,
many people will believe in his deceptions and follow him. Such an environment will
have to be opposed by all people of good conscience and believers. In addition, they
will have to wage a powerful intellectual struggle against this environment, one in
which, by God's will, they will be victorious. However, the Prophet (may God bless
him and grant him peace) revealed that this individual's wickedness will be on a scale
never before seen in history, and warned believers to avoid it:
I tell you these things so that you may understand the situation and not fall into
his snare, and so that you may tell those who come after, because his wickedness is the
worst wickedness of all.13
This advice, as well as his prayer for shelter in God from the strife caused by the
Antichrist, is a guide for Muslims. Muslims from different sects and races ask God
during their five daily prayers to protect them from the Antichrist's evil. As the hadith
reveal, the prayer that our beloved Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace)
taught to believers is as follows:
Our Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) stated that: "When one of
you finishes his prayer, let him seek God's protection from four things by saying: Oh
God, I seek your protection from the suffering of Hell, the agony of the tomb, the
wickedness of life and death, and the wickedness of the Antichrist."14
The fact that the Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) taught this
prayer to his followers in person and recommended that they say it during the daily
prayers shows how important the question of the Antichrist is for believers. We know
that after their daily prayers, Islamic scholars also added the words Allahumma ajirni
min fitna al-Masih al-Dajjal wa al-Sufyan (O God, protect me from the wickedness of
the Antichrist and the Sufyan). Aware of the immense scale of the Antichrist's evil,
Muslims seek God's protection with this prayer in their own daily prayers. This shows
that Muslims are spiritually prepared for the Antichrist. However, the most important
preparation to be taken against the Antichrist is exactly the one that must be taken to
prepare for Jesus' (pbuh) coming.
In one respect, the second coming will manifest the fact that this prayer has been
heard. This is because the hadith reveal that the Antichrist's wickedness can only be
done away with by Jesus' (pbuh) return to Earth, and that when the Antichrist sees Jesus
(pbuh), "he will dissolve like salt in water." Some of the hadith reveal how Jesus (pbuh)
will eliminate the Antichrist, as follows:
As the Antichrist spreads evil through the world, God will send the Messiah,
Jesus (pbuh), son of Mary … Jesus (pbuh) will meet the Antichrist at the gate of Ludd
[near Jerusalem] and kill him. 15
When God's enemy [the Antichrist] sees him, he will dissolve like salt in water.
Although he would dissolve until he has been completely destroyed, even if left on his
own, God will still destroy the Antichrist by the hand of Jesus (pbuh)… 16
Jesus (pbuh) will soon return, and will then destroy the Antichrist, the malicious,
the inauspicious one. 17
Therefore, it is a matter of the greatest importance that all believers and those
who wish to be protected from the Antichrist's evil should fully support Jesus (pbuh)
and strive to prepare the best possible environment before he actually returns.
On the one hand, Muslims must uncover the Antichrist's wickedness and
deceptions and wage an intellectual struggle against those elements that comprise the
ideological foundations of the Antichrist's system. On the other hand, they must prepare
the groundwork for the great intellectual struggle that Jesus (pbuh) will wage after his
return, and must prepare themselves to support him. The information provided in the
Qur'an and the developments described in the hadith indicate that one of history's most
important periods is approaching.
Those who will enjoy the honor of living at such a historic time should feel great
excitement at this prospect and should be aware of the scale of their responsibility. One
of the first things that such people have to do is to prepare themselves and those around
them for Jesus' (pbuh) return.
How Should We Await the Second Coming?

The current state of the world shows us which subjects we need to give priority to
as we prepare for this glorious event. This is a period when the damage inflicted on
society by atheistic ideologies will perhaps be worse than in any other. The spread of
violence, terror, cruelty, fraud, falsehood, immorality, conflict, and poverty all over the
world shows that the world is full of "wickedness."
All of this cruelty and degeneration is gathering strength from the superstitious
system established by those who deny God's existence and oneness and who do not
believe in the Hereafter. Moreover, it is growing and spreading. In the face of this,
Muslims need to eliminate the ideological sources that make up this environment's
foundation and encourage this degeneration through intellectual arguments. One of the
most important ways of doing this is for Muslims to struggle in a spirit of oneness and
unity.
This intellectual struggle is a major responsibility for all Muslims. In addition,
those Muslims who are awaiting his return must abandon their internal disagreements
and differences of opinion in order to establish unity and solidarity. No doubt, it would
be a grave error and a terrible evil for the Muslim world to become mired in its own
internal problems.
Muslims who fully live by the Qur'an's moral values and follow the Sunnah of our
Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) must behave in a cohesive manner,
bring a spirit of cooperative solidarity to the fore, and remind the Muslim world that all
Muslims are "brothers and sisters in religion." In fact, our Lord tells Muslims to act in a
spirit of unity and union:

Hold fast to the rope of God all together, and do not separate. Remember
God's blessing to you when you were enemies and He joined your hearts together
so that you became brothers by His blessing. You were on the very brink of a pit of
the Fire, and He rescued you from it. In this way, God makes His signs clear to
you so that, hopefully, you will be guided. (Qur'an, 3:103)

Furthermore, by God's will, this alliance will be one of the main stages in the
intellectual destruction of atheistic ideologies. In the Qur'an, our Lord mentions this
alliance and reveals that the believers must enjoy friendly relations among themselves
and help each other if the wickedness in the world is to be eliminated:

Those who do not believe are the friends and protectors of one another. If
you do not act in this way, there will be turmoil in the land and great corruption.
(Qur'an, 8:73)

If the Muslims can set aside their differences and divisions, remember that they
are "brothers" and "sisters," and live by the proper moral values brought about by this
spiritual unity, they will set an example to the whole world and provide an entirely
suitable environment for Jesus (pbuh).
When Jesus (pbuh) returns, the Muslim world must have already turned its
internal cultural and traditional differences into elements of enrichment, eliminated the
negative influence of atheistic ideologies upon it, and joined together in unity by living
according to the Qur'an's moral values.

The quotations from ahadith

Bhukhari:-
V1/N184/Nr.Asma bintAbu Bakar/Clas.Ablution:-
Narrated Asma bint Abu Bakr

I came to 'Aisha the wife of the Prophet during the solar eclipse. The
people were standing and offering the prayer and she was also praying. I
asked her, "What is wrong with the people?" She beckoned with her
hand towards the sky and said, "Subhan Allah." I asked her, Is there a
sign?" She pointed out, "Yes." So I, too, stood for the prayer till I fell
unconscious and later on I poured water on my head. After the prayer,
Allah's Apostle praised and glorified Allah and said, "Just now I have
seen something which I never saw before at this place of mine, including
Paradise and Hell. I have been inspired (and have understood) that you
will be put to trials in your graves and these trials will be like the trials
of Ad-Dajjal, or nearly like it (the sub narrator is not sure of what Asma'
said). Angels will come to every one of you and ask, 'What do you know
about this man?' A believer will reply, 'He is Muhammad, Allah's
Apostle, and he came to us with self-evident truth and guidance. So we
accepted his teaching, believed and followed him.' Then the angels will
say to him to sleep in peace as they have come to know that he was a
believer. On the other hand a hypocrite or a doubtful person will reply, 'I
do not know but heard the people saying something and so I said the
same.' "

V1/N795/Nr.Aisha/Clas.prayer characteristics
Narrated Aisha

(the wife of the Prophet) Allah's Apostle used to invoke Allah in the prayer
saying "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min adhabil-qabri, wa a'udhu bika min
fitnatil-masihid-dajjal, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-mahya wa fitnatil-
mamati. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-ma thami wal-maghrami. (O
Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave and from
the afflictions of Masiah Ad-Dajjal and from the afflictions of life and
death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the sins and from being in
debt)." Somebody said to him, "Why do you so frequently seek refuge with
Allah from being in debt?" The Prophet replied, "A person in debt tells lies
whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them)."
'Aisha also narrated: I heard Allah's Apostle in his prayer seeking refuge
with Allah from the afflictions of Ad-Dajjal.

said (to Ibn Saiyad), "What do you think?" Ibn Saiyad answered, "True
people and liars visit me." The Prophetsaid, "You have been confused as to
this matter." Then the Prophet said to him, "I have kept something (in my
mind) for you, (can you tell me that?)" Ibn Saiyad said,"It is Al-Dukh (the
smoke)." (2) The Prophet said, "Let you be in ignominy. You cannot cross
your limits." On that 'Umar, said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to chop
his head off." The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "If he is he (i.e. Dajjal), then you
cannot overpower him, and if he is not, then there is no use of murdering
him." (Ibn'Umar added): Later on Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) once again went
along with Ubai bin Ka'b to the date-palmtrees (garden) where Ibn Saiyad
was staying. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) wanted to hear something from Ibn
Saiyad before Ibn Saiyad could see him, and the Prophet (p.b.u.h) saw him
lying covered with a sheet and from where his murmurs were heard. Ibn
Saiyad's mother saw Allah's Apostle while he was hiding himself behind the
trunks of the date-palm trees. She addressed Ibn Saiyad, "O Saf ! (and this
was the name of Ibn Saiyad) Here is Muhammad." And with that Ibn Saiyad
got up. The Prophet said, "Had this woman left him (Had she not disturbed
him), then Ibn Saiyad would have revealed the reality of his case.

V2/N626/Clas.Hajj
Narrated Mujahida
I was in the company of Ibn Abbas and the people talked about Ad-Dajjal and said, "Ad-
Dajjal will come with the word Kafir (non-believer) written in between his eyes." On that
Ibn Abbas said, "I have not heard this from the Prophet but I heard him saying, 'As if I
saw Moses just now entering the valley reciting Talbyia. ' "

V3/N103/Clas.Virtues o Medina
Narrated Abu Bakra
The Prophet said, "The terror caused by Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal will not enter Medina and at
that time Medina will have seven gates and there will be two angels at each gate guarding
them."

V3/N104/Clas.Virtues o f Medina
Narrated Abu Huraira
Allah's Apostle said, "There are angels guarding the entrances (or roads) of Medina,
neither plague nor Ad-Dajjal will be able to enter it."

V3/N105/Cl.Virtues of Medina
Narrated Anas bin Malik

The Prophet said, "There will be no town which Ad-Dajjal will not enter except Mecca
and Medina, and there will be no entrance (road) (of both Mecca and Medina) but the
angels will be standing in rows guarding it against him, and then Medina will shake with
its inhabitants thrice (i.e. three earthquakes will take place) and Allah will expel all the
non-believers and the hypocrites from it."

V3/N106/clas.Virtues of Medina
Narrated Abu Said Al Khudri

Allah's Apostle told us a long narrative about Ad-Dajjal, and among the many things he
mentioned, was his saying, "Ad-Dajjal will come and it will be forbidden for him to pass
through the entrances of Medina. He will land in some of the salty barren areas (outside)
Medina; on that day the best man or one of the best men will come up to him and say, 'I
testify that you are the same Dajjal whose description was given to us by Allah's
Apostle .' Ad-Dajjal will say to the people, 'If I kill this man and bring him back to life
again, will you doubt my claim?' They will say, 'No.' Then Ad-Dajjal will kill that man
and bring him back to life. That man will say, 'Now I know your reality better than
before.' Ad-Dajjal will say, 'I want to kill him but I cannot.' "

V3/N719/clas.Slaves,Manumission
Narrated Abu Huraira

I have loved the people of the tribe of Bani Tamim ever since I heard, three things,
Allah's Apostle said about them. I heard him saying, "These people (of the tribe of Bani
Tamim) would stand firm against Ad-Dajjal." When the Sadaqat (gifts of charity) from
that tribe came, Allah's Apostle said, "These are the Sadaqat (i.e. charitable gifts) of our
folk." 'Aisha had a slave-girl from that tribe, and the Prophet said to 'Aisha, "Manumit
her as she is a descendant of Ishmael (the Prophet)."

V4/n290a
Narrated Ibn Umar

Umar and a group of the companions of the Prophet set out with the Prophet to Ibn
Saiyad. He found him playing with some boys near the hillocks of Bani
Maghala. Ibn Saiyad at that time was nearing his puberty. He did not notice (the Prophet's
presence) till the Prophet stroked him on the back with his hand and said, "Ibn Saiyad!
Do you testify that I am Allah's Apostle?" Ibn Saiyad looked at him and said, "I testify
that you are the Apostle of the illiterates." Then Ibn Saiyad asked the Prophet, "Do you
testify that I am the apostle of Allah?" The Prophet said to him, "I believe in Allah and
His Apostles." Then the Prophet said (to Ibn Saiyad), "What do you see?" Ibn Saiyad
replied, "True people and false ones visit me." The Prophet said, "Your mind is confused
as to this matter." The Prophet added, "I have kept something (in my mind) for you." Ibn
Saiyad said, "It is Ad-Dukh." The Prophet said (to him), "Shame be on you! You cannot
cross your limits." On that Umar said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to chop his head
off." The Prophet said, "If he should be him (i.e. Ad-Dajjal) then you cannot overpower
him, and should he not be him, then you are not going to benefit by murdering him."

V4/n290b
Narrated Ibn Umar

(Later on) Allah's Apostle (once again) went along with Ubai bin Ka'b to the garden of
date-palms where Ibn Saiyad was staying. When the Prophet entered the garden, he
started hiding himself behind the trunks of the date-palms as he wanted to hear
something from the Ibn Saiyad before the latter could see him. Ibn Saiyad was lying in
his bed, covered with a velvet sheet from where his murmurs were heard. Ibn Saiyad's
mother saw the Prophet while he was hiding himself behind the trunks of the date-palms.
She addressed Ibn Saiyad, "O Saf!" (And this was his name). Ibn Saiyad got up. The
Prophet said, "Had this woman let him to himself, he would have revealed the reality of
his case." Then the Prophet got up amongst the people, glorifying Allah as He deserves,
he mentioned Ad-Dajjal, saying, "I warn you about him (i.e. Ad-Dajjal) and there is no
prophet who did not warn his nation about him, and
Noah warned his nation about him, but I tell you a
statement which no prophet informed his nation of. You
should understand that he is a one-eyed man and Allah
is not one-eyed."

V4/n462/clas.creation,beginning
Narrated Ibn Abbas

The Prophet said, "On the night of my Ascent to the Heaven, I saw Moses who was a tall
brown curly-haired man as if he was one of the men of Shan'awa tribe, and
I saw Jesus, a man of medium height and moderate complexion inclined to the red and
white colors and of lank hair. I also saw Malik, the gate-keeper of the (Hell) Fire and Ad-
Dajjal amongst the signs which Allah showed me." (The Prophet then recited the Holy
Verse): "So be not you in doubt of meeting him when you met Moses during the night of
Mi'raj over the heavens."
(32.23)

Narrated Anas and Abu Bakra: "The Prophet said, "The angels will guard Medina from
Ad-Dajjal (who will not be able to enter the city of Medina)."

V4/n553/clas.prohets
Narrated Ibn Umar

Once Allah's Apostle stood amongst the people, glorified and praised Allah as He
deserved and then mentioned the Dajjal saying, "I warn you against him (i.e. the Dajjal)
and there was no prophet but warned his nation against him. No doubt, Noah warned his
nation against him but I tell you about him something of which no prophet told his nation
before me. You should know that he is one-eyed, and Allah is not one-eyed."

V4/n554/clas.prophets
Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah's Apostle said, "Shall I not tell you about the Dajjal a story of which no prophet
told his nation? The Dajjall is one-eyed and will bring with him what will resemble Hell
and Paradise, and what he will call Paradise will be actually Hell; so I warn you (against
him) as Noah warned his nation against him."

V4/n574/prohets
Narrated Mujahid

That when the people mentioned before Ibn 'Abbas that the Dajjal would have the word
Kafir, (i.e. unbeliever) or the letters Kafir (the root of the Arabic verb 'disbelieve') written
on his forehead, I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying, "I did not hear this, but the Prophet said, 'If
you want to see Abraham, then look at your companion (i.e. the Prophet) but Moses was
a curly-haired, brown man (who used to ride) a red camel, the reins of which was
made of fires of date-palms. As if I were now looking down a valley."
Narrated Zayd ibn Thabit
Muslim1333

As Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) was going with us towards the dwellings of Banu
an-Najjar. While riding his pony, it shied and he nearly fell off. He found four,
five or six graves there. He said: Which of you knows about those lying in the graves?
Someone said: I do. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: In what state did they die? He
said: They died as polytheists. He said: These people are passing through the ordeal in the
graves. If it were not for the fact that you would stop burying (your dead) in the graves if
you heard the torment in the grave, which I hear, I should have certainly made you listen
to it. Then turning his face towards us, he said: Seek refuge with Allah from the torment
of Hell. They said: We seek refuge with Allah from the torment of Hell. He said: Seek
refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave. They said: We seek refuge with Allah
from the torment of the grave. He said: Seek refuge with Allah from turmoil, its visible
and invisible (aspects). They said: We seek refuge with Allah from turmoil and its visible
and invisible aspects. He said: Seek refuge with Allah from the turmoil of the Dajjal.
They said: We seek refuge Allah from the turmoil of the Dajjal.

Narrated Mughirah ibn Shu'bah

1013 muslim

None else had asked more questions from Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) about
the Dajjal than I, but he simply said in a (light mood): My son, why are you worried
because of him? He will not harm you. I said: The people think that he would have with
him rivers of water and mountains of bread, whereupon he said: He would be more
insignificant in the sight of Allah than all these things (belonging to him).

Narrated AbuHurayrah

1348muslim
Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: The Last Hour will not come until the Romans
land at al-A'maq or in Dabiq. An army consisting of the best (soldiers) of the people on
Earth at that time will come from Medina (to oppose them). When they arrange
themselves in ranks, the Romans will say: Do not stand between us and those (Muslims)
who took prisoners from among us. Let us fight them. The Muslims will say: Nay, by
Allah, we shall never turn aside from you and from our brethren so that you may fight
them. They will then fight and a third (part) of the army, whom Allah will never forgive,
will run away. A third (part of the army), which will be constituted of excellent martyrs
in Allah's eyes, would be killed. The third who will never be put on trial will win and
they will be the conquerors of Constantinople. As they are busy in distributing the spoils
of war (amongst themselves) after hanging their swords by the olive trees, Satan will cry:
The Dajjal has taken your place among your families. They will then come out, but it will
be of no avail. When they reach Syria, he will come out while they are still preparing
themselves for battle, drawing up the ranks. Certainly, the time of prayer will come and
then Jesus (peace be upon him), son of Mary, descend and will lead them in prayer.
When the enemy of Allah see him, it will (disappear) just as salt dissolves in water and if
he (Jesus) were not to confront them at all, even then it would dissolve completely. Allah
would kill them by his hand and he would show them their blood on his lance (the lance
of Jesus Christ).

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud

1350muslim
Once there blew a red storm in Kufah and there came a person who had nothing to say
but (these words): Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, the Last Hour has come. He (Abdullah ibn
Mas'ud) was sitting reclining against something, and he said: The Last Hour will not
come until the people divide inheritance and rejoice over booty. Then He said pointing
towards Syria, with a gesture of his hand like this: The enemy will muster strength
against the Muslims and the Muslims will muster strength against them (Syrians). I said:
You mean Rome? He said: Yes, and there will be a terrible fight. The Muslims will
prepare a detachment (for fighting unto death) which will not return unless victorious.
They will fight until darkness intervenes. Both sides will return without being victorious
and both will be wiped out. The Muslims will again prepare a detachment for fighting
unto death so that they may not return unless victorious. When it is the fourth day, a
new detachment from the remnant of the Muslims will be prepared and Allah will decree
that the enemy will be routed. They would fight such a fight the like of which has not
been seen, so fierce that even if a bird were to pass their flanks, it would fall down dead
before reaching the other end. (There will be such a large scale massacre) that when
counting will be done, (only) one out of a hundred men related to one another would be
found alive. So what can be the joy at the spoils of such war and what inheritance can be
divided? They will be in this very state when they will hear of a calamity more horrible
than this. A cry will reach them: The Dajjal has taken your place among your offspring.
They will therefore throw away what is in their hands and go forward, sending ten
horsemen as a scouting party. Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: I know their
names, the names of their forefathers and the colour of their horses. They will be the best
horsemen on the surface of the Earth on that day or among the besthorsemen on the
surface of the Earth on that day.

Narrated Nafi' ibn Utbah

1351muslim
We were with Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) on an expedition when there came to
Allah''a Apostle (peace be upon him) some people from the west. Dressed in woollen
clothes, they stood near a hillock and met Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) as was
sitting. I said to myself: I had better go to them and stand between him and them so that
they may not attack him. Then I thought that perhaps there were secret negotiations going
on between them. However, I went to them and stood between them and him and
remember four of the words (on that occasion), which I repeat (on the fingers of my
hand), that he (Allah's Apostle p.) said: You will attack Arabia and Allah will enable you
to conquer it, then you will attack Persia and He will cause you to conquer it. Then you
will attack Rome and Allah will enable you to conquer it, then you will attack the Dajjal
and Allah will enable you to conquer him. Nafi said: Jabir, we thought that the Dajjal
would appear after Rome (Syrian territory) was conquered.

Narrated Hudhayfah ibn Usayd Ghifari

Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a
discussion) He said: What do you discuss about? (the Companions) said: We are
discussing about the Last Hour. Thereupon he said: It will not come until you see ten
signs before and (in this connection) he made a mention of the smoke, Dajjal, the beast,
the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary (Allah be pleased
with him), The Gog and Magog, and landslides in three places, one in the east, one in the
west and one in Arabia at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and
would drive people to the place of their assembly.

1363muslim
Narrated AbuHurayrah

Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: You have heard of the city, one side of which
is inclined and the other is on the coast (Constantinople). They said: Yes,
Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him). Thereupon he said: The Last Hour will not come
until seventy thousand people from Banu Isra'il attack it. When they land there, they will
neither fight with weapons nor shower arrows but will only say: "There is no god but
Allah and Allah is the Greatest," and one side of it will fall. Thawr (one of the narrators)
said: I think that he said: The area on the coast. Then they will say for the second time:
"There is no god but Allah and Allah is the Greatest," and the other side will also fall.
They will say: "There is no god but Allah is the Greatest," and the gates will be
opened for them and they will enter. They will be collecting spoils of war and distributing
them among themselves when a noise will be heard and it will be said: Verily, the Dajjal
has come. Thus they will leave everything there and turn to (confront) him.

1366muslim

We were along with Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) that we happened to pass by
children amongst whom there was Ibn Sayyad. The children made their way but Ibn
Sayyad kept sitting there (and it seemed) as if Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) did
not like it (his sitting with the children) and said to him: May your nose be besmeared
with dust, don't you bear testimony to the fact that I am the Messenger of Allah?
Thereupon he said: No, but you should bear testimony that I am the messenger of Allah.
Thereupon Umar ibn al-Khattab said: Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) permit me that
I should kill him. Thereupon Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: If he is that
person who is in your mind (Dajjal), you will not be able to kill him.

Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) mentioned of the Dajjal one day in the morning. He
sometimes described him as insignificant and sometimes described (his turmoil) as very
significant (and we felt) as if he were in the cluster of the date-palm trees. When we went
to him (to the Holy Prophet) in the evening and he read (the signs of fear) on our faces,
he said: What is the matter with you? We said: Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) you
mentioned the Dajjal this morning (sometimes describing him) as insignificant and
sometimes very important, until we began to think he was present in some (nearly) part of
the cluster of the date-palm trees. So he said: I harbour fear in regard to you in so many
other things besides the Dajjal. If he comes forth while I am among you, I shall contend
with him on your behalf, but if he comes forth while I am not among you, a man must
contend on his own behalf and Allah will take care of every Muslim on my behalf (and
safeguard him against his evil). He (the Dajjal) will be a young man with twisted,
cropped hair, and a blind eye. I compare him with AbdulUzza ibn Qatan. He who among
you will survive to see him should recite over him the opening verses of Surah al-Kahf
(xviii). He will appear on the way between Syria and Iraq and will spread mischief right
and left. O servant of Allah! Adhere (to the path of Truth). We said: Allah's Apostle
(peace be upon him), how long will he stay on Earth? He said: For forty days, one day
like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of the days will be like
your days. We said: Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) will one day's prayer suffice for
the prayers of the day equal to one year? Thereupon he said: No, but you must make an
estimate of the time (and then observe prayer). We said: Allah's apostle (peace be upon
him) how quickly will he walk upon the earth? Thereupon he said: Like cloud driven by
the wind. He will come to the people and invite them (to a wrong religion); they will
affirm their faith in him and respond to him. He will then give a command to the sky:
there will be rainfall upon the Earth and it will grow crops. Then in the evening, their
pasturing animals will come to them with their humps very high, their udders full of milk
and their flanks distended. He will then come to another people and invite them. But they
will reject him so he will go away from them; they will have a drought and nothing will
be left with them in the form of wealth. He will then walk through the desert and say to it:
Bring forth your treasures. The treasures will come out and gather before him like a
swarm of bees. He will then call someone in the flush of youth, strike him with the
sword, cut him into two pieces and (make these pieces lie at the distance which is
generally between the archer and his target. He will then call (that young man) and hewill
come forward laughing with his face gleaming (with happiness). It will at this very time
that Allah will send Christ, son of Mary. He will descend at the white minaret on the
eastern side of Damascus, wearing two garments lightly dyed with saffron and placing his
hands on the wings of two Angels. When he lowers his head, there will fall beads of
perspiration from his head, and when he raises it up, beads like pearls will scatter from it.
Every non-believer who smells the odour of his body will die and his breath will reach
as far as he is able to see. He will then search for him (Dajjal) until he catches hold of
him at the gate of Ludd and kills him. Then a people whom Allah had protected will
come to Jesus, son of Mary, and he will wipe their faces and inform them of their ranks in
Paradise. It will be under such conditions that Allah will reveal to Jesus these words: I
have brought forth from among My servants such people against whom none will
be able to fight; you take these people safely to Tur, and then Allah will send Gog and
Magog and they will swarm down from every slope. The first of them will pass the lake
of Tiberias and drink out of it. And when the last of them passes, he will say: There was
once water there. Jesus and his companions will then be besieged here (at Tur, and they
will be so hard pressed) that the head of the ox will be dearer to them than one hundred
dinars. Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him), Jesus, and his companions will supplicate
Allah, Who will send to them insects (which will attack their necks) and in the morning
they would perish as one single person. Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him), Jesus, and
his companions, then come down to Earth and they will not find on Earth as much space
as a single span that is not filled with putrefaction and stench. Allah's Apostle (peace be
upon him), Jesus, and his companions will then beseech Allah who will send
birds whose necks would be like those of Bactrian camels and they will carry them away
and throw them where Allah wills. Then Allah will send rain which no house of mud-
bricks or (tent of) camel-hair will keep out and it will wash the Earth until it resembles a
mirror. Then the Earth will be told to bring forth its fruit and restore its blessing and, as a
result thereof, there will grow (such a big) pomegranate that a group of people will be
able to eat it and seek shelter under its skin, a dairy cow will give so much milk that a
whole party will be able to drink it. The milking camel will give such (a
large quantity of) milk that the whole tribe will be able to drink from it, and the milking
sheep will give so much milk that the whole family will be able to drink from it. At
that time Allah will send a pleasant wind which will soothe (people) even under their
armpits. He will take the life of every Muslim and only the wicked will survive who will
commit adultery like asses and the Last Hour would come to them.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr

Someone came to him and said: What is this hadith that you narrate that the Last Hour
will come at a certain time? Thereupon he said: Hallowed be Allah, there is no god but
Allah (or words to the same effect). I have decided that I shall not narrate anything to
anyone now. I have only said that you will see after some time an important event: that
the (sacred) House (Ka'bah) will be burnt and it definitely happen. He then reported that
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: The Dajjal will appear in my Ummah and
he will stay (in the world) for forty--I cannot say whether he meant forty days, forty
months or forty years. Allah will then send Jesus, son of Mary, who will resemble Urwah
ibn Mas'ud. He (Jesus Christ) will chase him and kill him. Then people will live for seven
years, during which time there will be no rancour between any two persons. After that
Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Syria. None will survive on Earth,
having a speck of good in him or faith in him: he will die. Even if some among you were
to enter the innermost part of the mountain, this wind would reach that place also and
cause your death. I heard Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) as saying: Only the wicked
people will survive and they will be as careless as birds with the characteristics of beasts.
They will never appreciate good nor condemn evil. Then Satan will come to them, in
human form, and would say: Don't you respond? They will say: What do you order us to
do? He will command them to worship the idols but, in spite of this, they will have an
abundance of sustenance and lead comfortable lives. Then the trumpet will be blown and
he who hears it will bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other side. The first
one to hear that trumpet will be the person who is busy in setting right the cistern meant
for supplying water to the camels. He will faint and the other people will also faint. Then
Allah will send or He will cause to be sent rain which will be like dew and there will
grow out of it the bodies of people. Then the second trumpet will be blown and they will
stand up and begin to look (around). Then it will be said: O people, go to your Lord.
They will be made to stand there and they will be questioned. Then it will be said:
Bring out a group (of them) for the Hell-Fire. It will be asked: How much? It will be said:
Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of one thousand for the Hell-Fire. That will be the day
that will make the children old because of its terror and that will be the day about which it
has been said: "On the day when the shank will be uncovered".

I committed to memory a hadith from Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) and I did not

west, the appearance of the beast before the people in the forenoon and which of the two
happens first, the second one would follow immediately after that.

Amir ibn Sharahil ash-Sha'bi said: Fatimah bint Qays was among the first emigrant
women. I asked her to narrate to me a hadith which she had heard directly from Allah's
Apostle (peace be upon him) and there was no extra link between them. She said: Very
well, if you like, I am prepared to do that. He said to her: Well, do so and narrate it to me.
She said: I married the son of Mughirah and he was a chosen young man of Quraysh at
that time, but he fell as a martyr in the first Jihad (fighting on the side of Allah's Apostle
(peace be upon him)). When I became a widow, AbdurRahman ibn Awf, one of the group
of the companions of Allah's Apostle. sent me a proposal of marriage. Allah's Apostle
(peace be upon him) also sent me such a message for his freed slave, Usamah ibn Zayd. It
had been conveyed to me that Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) had said (about
Usamah): He who loves me should also love Usamah. When Allah's Apostle (peace be
upon him) talked to me (about this matter), I said: My affairs are in your hands. You may
marry me to anyone you wish. He said: You had better move now to the house of Umm
Sharik. Umm Sharik was a rich lady from among the Ansar. She spent generously for the
cause of Allah and entertained guests very hospitably. I said: Well, I shall do as you wish.
He said: Do not do that because Umm Sharik is a woman who is very frequently visited
by guests and I do not like your head to be uncovered or removed from your shank and
the strangers may catch sight of that which you abhor. You had better move to the house
of your cousin, Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Umm Maktum. He was one of the Banu Fihr
branch of the Quraysh, and he belonged to that tribe (to which Fatimah) belonged. So I
moved to that house, and when my period of waiting was over, I heard the voice
of an announcer making an announcement that the prayer would be observed in the
mosque (where) congregational prayer (is observed). So I set out towards the mosque and
observed prayer with the Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) and I was in the row of the
women which was near the row of men. When Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) had
finished his prayer, he sat on the pulpit, smiling, and said: Every worshipper should
remain sitting in his place. He then said: Do you know why I have asked you to
assemble? They said: Allah and His apostle know best. He said: By Allah, I have not
made you assemble for exhortation or for a warning. I have detained you here because
Tamim Dari, a Christian who came and accepted Islam, told me something which agrees
with what I was telling you about the Dajjal. He narrated to me that he had sailed in a
ship with thirty men of Banu Lakhm and Banu Judham and had been tossed by waves in
the ocean for a month. Then these (waves) took them (near) the land within the ocean
(island) at the time of sunset. They sat in a small rowing-boat and landed on that island.
There was a beast with long thick hair (and because of this) they could not distinguish his
face from his back. They said: Woe to you, who can you be? Thereupon it said: I am al-
Jassasah. They said: What is al-Jassasah? It said: O people, go to this person in the
monastery as he is very much eager to know about you. He (the narrator) said: When it
named a person for us we were afraid of it lest it should be a Devil. Then we hurried on
till we came to that monastery and found a well-built person there with his hands tied to
his neck and iron shackles gripping his legs by the ankles. We said: Woe to you, who are
you? He said: You soon come to know about me, but tell me who you are. We said: We
are people from Arabia and we embarked upon a boat but the waves had been driving us
for one month and they brought us near this island. We took to the rowing-boats and
landed on this island. Here a beast with profusely thick hair met us and because of the
thickness of his hair his face could not be distinguished from his back. We said: Woe be
to thee, who are you? It said: I am al- Jassasah. We said: What is al-Jassasah? It said:
You go to this very person in the monastery for he is eagerly waiting for you to know
about you. So we came to you in hot haste fearing that that might be the Devil. He (that
chained person) said: Tell me about the date-palm trees of Baysan. We said: In which
respect do you seek information about it? He said: I ask you whether these trees bear fruit
or not. We said: Yes. Thereupon he said: I think these will not bear fruit. He said: Inform
me about the lake of Tabariyyah? We said: What do you want to know about it? He
said:Is there water in it? They said: There is an abundance of water in it. Thereupon he
said: I think it will soon dry up. He again said: Inform me about the spring of Zughar.
They said: What do you want to know about it? He (the chained person) said: Is there
water in it and does it irrigate (the land)? We said to him: Yes, there is an abundance of
water in it and the inhabitants (of Medina) irrigate (land) with its help. He said: Inform
me about the unlettered Prophet; what has he done? We said: He has left Mecca and has
settled in Yathrib (Medina). He said: Do the Arabs fight against him? We said: Yes. He
said: How does he deal with him? We informed him that he had overcome those in his
neighbourhood and they had submitted themselves
before him. Thereupon he said to us: Had it actually happened? We said: Yes. Thereupon
he said: If it is so that is better for them that they show obedience to him.
I am going to tell you about myself. I am the Dajjal and will be soon permitted to leave.
So I shall leave and travel in the land, and shall not spare any town where I shall not stay
for forty nights except Mecca and Medina: these two (places) are prohibited (areas) for
me and I shall not attempt to enter either of them. An angel with a sword in his hand will
confront me and bar my way and there will be angels to guard every road leading to
it. Then Allah's apostle (peace be upon him) striking the pulpit with the help of the end of
his staff said: This implies Tayba meaning Medina. Have I not told you an account (of
the Dajjal) like this? The people said: Yes, and this account narrated by Tamim Dari was
liked by me for it corroborates the account which I gave to you in regard to him (Dajjal)
at Medina and Mecca. Behold he (Dajjal) is in the Syrian sea (Mediterranean) or the
Yemen sea (Arabian sea). Nay, on the contrary, he is in the east, he is in the east, he is in
the east, and he pointed with his hand towards the east. I (Fatimah bint Qays) said:

unbeliever whatever sin he commits, and not to excommunicate him from Islam for his

When we were sitting with the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him), he talked about
periods of trial (fitnahs), mentioning many of them. When he mentioned the one when
people should stay in their houses, some asked him: Apostle of Allah, what is the trial
(fitnah) of staying at home? He replied: It will be flight and plunder. Then will come a
test which is pleasant. Its murkiness is due to the fact that it is produced by a man from
the people of my house, who will assert that he belongs to me, whereas he does not, for
my friends are only the God-fearing. Then the people will unite under a man who will be
like a hip-bone on a rib. Then there will be the little black trial which will leave none of
this community without giving him a slap, and when people say that it is finished, it will
be extended. During it a man will be a believer in the morning and an infidel in the
evening, so that the people will be in two camps: the camp of faith which will contain no
hypocrisy, and the camp of hypocrisy which will contain no faith. When that happens,
expect the Antichrist (Dajjal) that day or the next.

Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) about good, and I used to ask him about evil. Then
the people stared hard at him. He said: I know the reason why you dislike it. I then
asked: Apostle of Allah, will there be evil as there was before, after this good which
Allah has bestowed on us? He replied: Yes. I asked: Wherein does the protection
from it lie? He replied: In the sword. I asked: Apostle of Allah, what will then happen? He
replied: If Allah has on Earth a caliph who flays your back and takes your property, obey
him, otherwise die holding onto the stump of a tree. I asked: What will come next? He
replied: Then the Antichrist (Dajjal) will come forth accompanied by a river and fire. He
who falls into his fire will certainly receive his reward, and have his load

taken off him. I then asked: What will come next? He said: The Last Hour will come.

He will say 'I testify that you are Ad-Dajjal whose story Allah's Apostle has told us.'
Ad-Dajjal will say (to his audience), 'Look, if I kill this man and then give him life, will
you have any doubt about my claim?' They will reply, 'No,' Then Ad-Dajjal
will kill that man and then will make him alive. The man will say, 'By Allah, now I
recognize you more than ever!' Ad-Dajjal will then try to kill him (again) but he will not
be given the power to do so."

Narrated Anas bin Malik

The Prophet said, "Ad-Dajjal will come and encamp at a place close to Medina and then
Medina will shake thrice whereupon every Kafir (disbeliever) and hypocrite will go out
(of Medina) towards him."

Narrated Al Mughira bin Shuba

Nobody asked the Prophet as many questions as I asked regarding Ad-Dajjal. The
Prophet said to me, "What worries you about him?" I said, "Because the people say that
he will have a mountain of bread and a river of water with him (i.e. he will have
abundance of food and water)." The Prophet said, "Nay, he is too
mean to be allowed such a thing by Allah," (but it is only to test mankind whether they
believe in Allah or in Ad-Dajjal).

Ad-Dajjal was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet. The Prophet said, "Allah is not
hidden from you; He is not one-eyed," and pointed with his hand towards his eye, adding,
"While Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye and his eye looks like a protruding
grape."

Narrated Muhammad bin Al Munkadir

I saw Jabir bin 'Abdullah swearing by Allah that Ibn Sayyad was the Dajjal. I said to
Jabir, "How can you swear by Allah?" Jabir said, "I have heard 'Umar swearing by Allah
regarding this matter in the presence of the Prophet and the Prophet did not disapprove of
it."

Narrated Abu Said

One day Allah's Apostle narrated to us a long narration about Ad-Dajjal and among the
things he narrated to us, was: "Ad-Dajjal will come, and he will be forbidden to enter the
mountain passes of Medina. He will encamp in one of the salt areas neighboring Medina
and there will appear to him a man who will be the best or one of the best of the people.
He will say 'I testify that you are Ad-Dajjal whose story Allah's Apostle has told us.'
Ad-Dajjal will say (to his audience), 'Look, if I kill this man and then give him life, will
you have any doubt about my claim?' They will reply, 'No,' Then Ad-Dajjal will kill that
man and then will make him alive. The man will say, 'By Allah, now I recognize you
more than ever!' Ad-Dajjal will then try to kill him (again) but he will not be given the
power to do so."
