Efficacy of Online Laboratory Teachings Among Nursing Students of the

University of the Immaculate Conception

Statement of the Problem

Students need a solid foundation in laboratory activities to be able to compete

globally, and this is especially true for those taking nautical studies. To do this, creating

and analyzing innovative educational materials for use in science classrooms has

become essential. This study examined the educational innovation known as virtual

laboratories to see how effective it was for learning. According to the National Science

Teachers Association, virtual laboratories, which can be accessed online and simulate

real experiments, can cut down on the amount of time students spend in the classroom,

lessen the need for sophisticated, potentially dangerous, and expensive equipment, and

enable students to engage in advanced investigations that would otherwise be

impossible in a high school classroom setting. Virtual laboratories, which can be

deployed in response to calls for increased use of educational technology in science

classrooms, can also serve as an interesting instructional medium and one to which

many students of the digital age are already used. The efficiency of educational

activities is therefore significantly predicted by students' perceptions of their learning

environment, and the factors where they are being anonymously affected, especially in

secondary education. Thus, the usefulness of virtual laboratories was examined in this

study in terms of both student outcomes, such as attitudes and performance, which

were both quantified, and students' perceptions of the learning environment as well as

the factors that were compromised.

Research Objectives

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of online laboratory learning

among nursing students in terms of their mental, physical, and emotional aspect.

1. How do students take the online learning set up in terms of:

1.1 Computer/Internet Self Efficacy

1.2 Environment

2. Analyze the Academic Performance of taking Laboratory Subjects online

2.1 Learning Modality/Academic Performance

2.2 Level of Mental, Physical, and Emotional Well-being while taking online

laboratory classes

2.3 Perceptions of the students

Theoretical Framework

Online approaches were created as a result of the growth of e-learning in the first

ten years of the twenty-first century. online behavior is actions done online. While

campus-based courses use traditional methods, distance education courses make use

of blended methodologies to improve the teaching and learning process. A blended

learning approach whereby web-based e-learning tools are used to make predictions

and test hypotheses prior to the practical class, evaluate the results, and then rate the

submitted predictions afterward. Discusses a blended laboratory class that introduces

the typical laboratory experiment through a web-based overview lecture, a series of

web-delivered slide-specific micro-lectures, and a set of virtual slides with annotations.

Two sets of instructional materials, including manuals for the teacher and students (a

traditional approach), and web-based assistance centered on a CAL package, were

used for two groups. Both sets of supplementary resources made use of problem-based

learning, static illustrations, and descriptive text to achieve the same educational goals.

-Interview
-Learning Modality/Academic exams (e.g. Mental well-being
Performance factor).

-Level of Mental, Physical, and -Analyzed the effectiveness of

-Acquired the perceptions of the

students about learning in an
online set-up for their laboratory
subjects.

Population to be Studied and Methodology

The respondents of this study are the nursing students studying at the University

of the Immaculate Conception. Moreover, there will be 30 students randomly picked to

be a part of the study. The respondents will be given survey questionnaires, containing

questions in their demographic profile and questions regarding with their laboratory

experiences in the different major subjects such as Microbiology and Parasitology,

Nursing Care Management, and Anatomy and Physiology.

This study's methodology and research design are covered, along with data

collecting, population definition, sampling, ethical considerations, and data analysis.

The Significance of the Study

The conduction of this study is to determine whether the students are efficiently

learning via online lectures, video presentations in their laboratory lessons. The study is

to determine which factor affects the students the most that leads to the deterioration of

their academic performances thus connects to the efficacy of the online modality of

learning when it comes to their laboratory activities. This study is to determine whether

the online modality of learning is effective for the students to fully cope up and

understand specific lessons being carried out in the online classroom setting. By the

help of this study, the perceptions of the students are being acquired thus leads to

potent improvement of rendering teachings to the students especially that they are in

the medical field.
