My policeman

I have seen a film that I considered thrilling and involving and it is worth seeing. It is a drama set in
1950 in Brighton and follows a steamy love triangle. Harry Styles stared as Tom Burges, a
policeman who is tucked in the closet, Emma Corrin as his wife – Marion, and Patrick Hazelwood
his lover stared by David Dawson. The film tells the story of who illegal was the homosexuality was
in the Uk

The film begins when Four decades later, elderly Patrick (Rupert Everett) moves into the
Peacehaven home of Marion (Gina McKee) and Tom (Linus Roach) after suffering a stroke, and the
film alternates between the two periods in lengthy flashbacks. Suddenly, Marion discovered
Patrick's journals detailing the love story with her husband.

In the context of this period, while there's no denying that the film is careful to acknowledge the
tragedy of an era that forced gay people to suppress their sexuality or face persecution, it is just
on a superficial level. Tom is the prize that both Marion and Patrick always wanted, so at first it
seems like Styles was perfectly cast, as his charisma and star power make him the believable
center of this love triangle.

Unfortunately, the plot struck me with a lack of necessary depth and inner turmoil of a repressed
gay man torn between the love he feels for his wife socially accepted and the heartbreakingly
passionate forbidden love he feels for his lover. While there are some moments of raw emotion,
his way of expressing himself often feels unnatural, and his lack of experience compared to his
seasoned co-stars comes to the fore.

The characters are appealing and true to life, yet the plot should have been developed a bit more.
I would strongly recommend seeing my policeman, since it shows and teaches us how the society
has changed through the time regarding the gay community compared to the present time.
