सुधामण्डलं द्रावयन्तीं र्पबन्तीम ् | सुधामूततिमीडेSहमानन्दरूपाम ् ||१||

ज्वलत्कोटिबालाकिभासारुणाङ्गीम ् सुलावण्य श्रङ्
ृ गारशोभाभभरामाम ् ||
महापद्मककञ्जल्कमध्ये र्वराजत ् त्रत्रकोणोल्लसन्तीं भजे श्री भवानीम ् ||२||
ज्वलत्कोटिबालाकि
ज्वलत ् = burning (brightly)
कोटि-बाल-अकि = countless rising Suns,
भास = तेज Lustre
अरुणाङ्गीम ् = अरुण अङ्गीम ् = Whose form has the magenta colour (of
countless rising Suns)
सुलावण्य = Whose beauty the best – unparallaled
is beautiful all around

ृ गार-शोभा (Beauty enhanced by) various अलङ्कार-s
अभभरामाम ् (शोभा अभभतो रामा यसयााः सा), endowed all around = अभभतो
with सात्त्ववक Grace and beauty (स=

क्वणत्त्कङ्ककणीनूपुरोद्भाभसरत्नप्रभालीढलाक्षाद्रि पादारर्वन्दाम ् |
अजेशाच्युताद्यः सुरयः सेव्यमानां महादे र्व मन्मूत्ध्नि ते भावयाभम ||३||
क्वणत ् Jingling
ककङ्ककणी tiny bells
क्वणत्त्ककङ्ककणीनूपुर Anklets fitted with jingling tiny bells.
उद्भाभस-रत्नप्रभा The lustre of gems from the ones fitted on the anklets)
लीढ covering softly (लीढ = literally licking)
लाक्षाद्रि पादारर्वन्दाम ् = लाक्षा-रसेन (=red “alta” paint) आद्रौ= wet पाद-
अरर्वन्दौ यसयााः सा लाक्षाद्रि पादारर्वन्दा ताम ् With feet which have fresh
wet alta paint
अज =Brahmaa ईश,Eeshvara अच्यत
ु Vishnu आद्याः etc.सरु य ाः gods सेव्यमाना
are serving Her ....

-श्री-सतनद्वन्द्वम ् The pair of breasts which connote श्रीाः i.e. richness,
wealth and well-being all around,
माणणक्य-कुम्भोपम are like the (mighty) pitchers made of rubies
अम्बाम्बज
ु ाक्षीम ् – हे अम्ब, कवाम ् अम्बज
ु ाक्षीम ् तथा च ते (उपररतनटदि ष्टम ्)
सतनद्वन्द्वम ् अहं भजे | Oh Mother (अम्ब) I worship अहं भजे you who
have eyes like Lotus petals अम्बुजाक्षीम ्

ु श्च सतनद्वन्द्वं वणणितमत्त्सत यथा—
तव इदं पूणद
ि ग्ु ध-अभभरामं (पण
ू ेन दग्ु धेन अभभताः रामम ् ) The pair of brests
which is full of (divine) Milk and is (therefore) beautiful all around
अभभताः रामम ्
तथा च महाहारय ाः दीप्तं and also shining because of great necklaces-
garlands
प्रसनत
ु ासयम ् = तथा च सदा यसय सतनद्वन्द्वसय आसयं इतत मख
ु ं सदा प्रसनत
ु म्
(oozing out) आसयम ् mouth |
(Mountains are compared to the breasts of the Earth. These
incessantly feed us with nourishment. The earliest civilizations
sprung along the banks of mighty rivers, which originated in mighty
mountains))
Shloka 6.
भशरीषप्रसूनोल्लसद्बाहुदण्डयज्विलद्बाणकोदण्डपाशाङ्कुशयश्च|
चलत्कङ्कणोदारकेयूरभूषोज्वलतद्भः स्फुरन्तीं भजे श्री भवानीम ् ||६||
भशरीषप्रसन
ू = blossoms of भशरीष flowers,
उल्लसत ् = vibrating (due to the blossoms opening up)
बाहुदन्डयाः (सफुरन्तीं) = whose arms are pulsating (rearing to go at the
enemy)
ज्वलत ् = breathing fire (adjective of बाण-s)
बाण-कोदण्ड-पाश-अङ्कुशयश्च
चलत ् कङ्कण = moving bangles
उदार large sized
केयूर armlets
भष
ू adorned.
उज्ज्वलतद्भाः bristling with lustre.
due to which the arms are bristling with energy, brightness and
beauty. (उज्ज्वलतद्भाः बाहुदन्डयाः सफुरन्ती)

ू त्रि बम्बाधरस्मेरवक्त्रारर्वन्दं श्रश्रयं ते |
सरु त्नावलीहारतािङ्कशोभां भजे सप्र
ु सन्नामहं श्रीभवानीम ् ||७||

full Moon of Sharad Rutu
(तया प्रभया पण
ू ं वक्िारर्वन्दम ्) The face shining with that lustre of शारद
चन्द्रमा.
त्रबम्बफलम ् इव रक्तवणिाः अधराः= त्रबम्बाधराः (यसय तत ् वक्िारर्वन्दम ्,) Bimba= a
kind of red fruit like तेण्डली
समेरम ् =त्त्समतहासयम ् (यत्त्समन्नत्त्सत तत ् वक्िारर्वन्दम ्)
श्रश्रयम ् = श्रीाः एव ते वक्िारर्वन्दम ् The riuchness Magnifiscence of your
Lotus Face
सु-रत्नावली-हार- The garland of beautiful gems
तािङ्क शोभाम ् = the resplendance of your ear ornaments
भजे सुप्रसन्नामहं श्रीभवानीम ् To such a Resplendant Bhavai, I worship
Shloka 8.
सुनासापुिं पद्मपत्रायताक्षं यजन्तः श्रश्रयं दानदक्षं किाक्षम ् |
ललािोल्लसद्गन्धकस्तरू रभष
ू ोज्ज्वलतद्भः स्फुरन्तीं भजे श्रीभवानीम ् ||८||
स-ु नासापि
ु ं the beautiful nostrils (Implies the fair and straight thin
nose)
पद्म-पि- आयताक्षं (this is an adjective of किाक्षम ् which follows) eyes
large like the lotus leaf
यजन्ताः (or यजन्तं) = to the one who worships
श्रश्रयं = wealth
दानदक्षं which is ever ready to bestow (boons)
किाक्षम ् The glance (Remember भोाः पराक् सवाभमन ् पराक् =Oh Swamin,
may your दृर्ष्ट which is always inward turn outward and fall on me
and sanctify me)
ललाि = the forehead.
उल्लसत ् = shining.
गन्ध-कसतूरीभूष = decorated (भूष=भूर्षत) with (fragrant) sandal paste
mixed with कसतूरर
-उज्ज्वलतद्भाः with all the above mentioned bright decorations
सफुरन्तीम ् =pulsating
Shloka 9.
चलत्कुन्तलं ते भ्रमद्भङ्गव
ृ न्ृ दां घनत्स्नग्धधत्म्मल्लभूषोज्ज्वलन्तीम ् |
स्फुरन्मौभलमाणणक्यमध्येन्दरु े खार्वलासोल्लसटद्दव्यमध
ू ािनमीडे ||९||

चलत्कुन्तलान्तभ्रिमद्भङ्गव
ृ न्ृ दं घनत्स्नग्धधत्म्मल्लभूषोज्ज्वलं ते |
स्फुरन्मौभलमाणणक्यबद्धेन्दरु े खार्वलासोल्लसटद्दव्यमध
ू ािनमीडे ||९||
गणेश अणणमाटद अणखलयाः = by all the शक्तक्त-s led by गणेश, अणणमा आटद,
(अणणमा Body becomes tiny, मटहमा body becomes huge (as
Hanuman did in Ramayana), गररमा weight increses, लतघमा becoming
lighter than air, प्रातप्ताः omnipresence, प्राकाम्य omniscience, ईभशकव
controlling the world वभशकव controlling any person)
सव
ु ेद-आगमाद्य: (अर्प) – by those who know the veda-s and Āgama-s
well
मटहम्नाः न जानातत पारं तवेदम ् = तव मटहम्नाः इदम ् पारं न जानातत The do
not understand the end of your Greatness!
हे भवातन, ते सततु तं कतम
ुि ् इच्छाभम, हे अम्ब, कवम ् इदं क्षमसव| अहं प्रमग्ु ध:
ककल| Oh Mother, I am yearning to sing your Praises.
प्रमग्ु धाः ककलाहम ् The fool that I am.
Shloka 15.
शरण्ये वरे ण्ये सक
ु ारुण्यपूणे टहरण्योदराद्यरगम्येSततपुण्ये |
भवारण्यभीतं च मां पाटह भद्रे नमस्ते नमस्ते नमस्ते भवातन ||१५||
Shloka 16.
इमामन्वहं श्रीभवानीभज
ु ङ्गस्तुततं यः पठे च्रोतुभमच्छे त ् तस्मय |
स्वकीयं पदं शाश्वतं चयव सारम ् श्रश्रयं चाष्टभसद्धीश्च दे वी ददातत ||१६||
इमाम ् श्रीभवानीभज
ु ङ्गसततु तं याः This Stuti named Bhavani Bhujanga,
अन्वहं पठे त ् (अथ वा) One who recites this every day,
or even श्रोतुभमच्छे त तसमय One who is deisrous of listening to this,
every day,
सवकीयं पदं = Her own Station (A place near her)
शाश्वतं = Eternal
चयव सारम ् and the Essence of all that is desirable—the Ultimate— This
is पारमाश्र्िक फल.
श्रश्रयं चाष्टभसद्धीश्च and the Riches and the eight Siddhi-s (अणणमा to be
small (As Hanuman had) मटहमा to become gross गररमा, (heavy)
लतघमा (lighter than air), प्रातप्त Omnipresence, प्राकाम्य Omniscience
ईभशकव Controlling the world वभशकव controlling any person)
This is व्यावहाररक फल. So she Grants wealth here and hereafter,
both.
दे वी ददातत ||१६|| Thus दे वी bestows both the material wealth as well
as the spiritual one too.
