About 400 million years ago, swampy forests covered much of the land. Tiny
one-celled plants lived in the rivers and seas.
Coal, oil and natural gas are transported to power stations. There they are
burned to produce energy, which is used to turn the generators that
produce electricity.
Over millions of years, the dead remains of the plants in the swampy forests
