Patricia Perez Eustaquio was born in
1977 in Manila. She received her BFA
(Painting), Magna Cum Laude, from the
University of the Philippines, Diliman (2001).
She currently lives and works in Manila.
Patricia Perez Eustaquio works in a variety of
media: she explores different materials, such as
painting, drawing, installations, sculpture and
even weaving, lace, felt and cardboard. Images
of detritus, carcasses and decay are integrated
into her design and fashion work. The artist is in
fact also a clothing designer.
Patricia Perez Eustaquio's paintings are a reflection on the world (both man-made
and natural) through the metaphor of the
Orchid, asking what drives our search for
the unique, as we seek to replicate the
object of our desire. So while orchids
were rare specimens, becoming an
obsession for orchid hunters, they are
now the object of a 'big business' in the
horticultural industry and the attraction of
botanical gardens. The artist's recurring
motifs are the wilted flowers that she uses
in her main works, focusing on their
textures and tortured forms.
