SELF-LEARNING HOME TASK (SLHT)

Subject: ___STATISTICS & PROBABILITY_____________________ Grade: _11__
Quarter: 4 Activity# 1

MELC: 1. Understanding Parameters and Statistics

Name: __________________________ Section: ________ Date: ________

A. Readings/Discussions

This module aims to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of parameters

and statistics in the context of data analysis and statistics. By the end of this module, learners
will be able to differentiate between parameters and statistics, understand their roles in
statistical analysis, and apply this knowledge in various real-world scenarios.
 Definition of Parameters: Fixed numerical values that describe population
characteristics.
 Definition of Statistics: Numerical values calculated from sample data that
estimate population parameters.
Characteristics
 Parameters: Fixed, unknown values describing a population.
 Statistics: Variable, known values calculated from sample data.

Examples and Applications

 Parameters: Population mean, population standard deviation, population
proportion.
 Statistics: Sample mean, sample standard deviation, sample proportion.

Estimation and Inference

 Parameters: Estimated using sample statistics through estimation techniques.

 Statistics: Used to make inferences about population parameters through
hypothesis testing.
 Parameters are fixed, unknown values describing a population, while statistics
are variable, known values calculated from sample data to estimate population
parameters. Understanding the differences between parameters and statistics
is crucial for effective statistical analysis and decision-making.
