Multimedia: Audio or Video Lesson Idea

Lesson Idea Name: Examples of Productive Resources

Grade Level/Content Area: 3rd Grade / History
Content Standard Addressed:

SS3E1 Define and give examples of the four types of productive resources.
a. Natural (land)
b. Human (labor)
c. Capital (capital goods)
d. Entrepreneurship (risk-taking and combining natural, human, and capital resources in an
attempt to make a profit)

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be able
to do by the end of this lesson:
Knowledge Constructor: 1.3.c
Students curate information from digital resources I would like the students to be able to create a video
using a variety of tools and methods to create that effectively visually shows and describes their
collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful understanding of a topic.
connections or conclusions.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? (Add 1 to 2 sentences stating the learning outcome
you would expect students to achieve using the technology tool selected. This goal will be shared with
students so make it clear, concise, and kid-friendly.)

“I can create a video that explains the significance of one or more productive resources through the use of
audio and visuals”

Selected Instructional Software Tool: ScreenPal

Description of Software: ScreenPal is a video creation tool that allows students to easily record and edit
videos. It has many editing tools and options for adding annotations within the video.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s): (Which level(s) will this lesson meet using this technology tool?) Please put an X
in the box or next to the level(s). Do not highlight or bold the response.

☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating X Creating

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the teacher's
direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly practice based.

X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of learning
and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates the learning as
the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. (Note: This
objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project
to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:

Students will use ScreenPal to create videos that demonstrate their understanding of natural, human, capital,
and entrepreneurship productive resources. I will introduce the lesson with a class discussion on the
importance of these resources in our lives and how they impact the economy. Students will then be asked to
create a presentation explaining the significance, along with examples, of one of these resources. The goal is
for each student to create a video that visually and verbally explains their understanding of part of the lesson,
then the videos will be played in class for everyone. This way, everyone is learning the information, but each
student is doing a “deep-dive” into one aspect of it. Students will use ScreenPal to record and edit their
videos, adding text and images to enhance it. As the teacher, I will provide assistive demonstrations on how to
edit videos and effectively convey information. Feedback will occur throughout the project with opportunities
for peer review before final submission. The lesson will conclude with a video showcase where students
present their work to the class, allowing for collective learning.

Managing student learning:

Using ScreenPal will allow my students to move from passive listeners to active learners in their education. To
ensure active engagement and effective time management, students will be required to submit a storyboard
for their video before beginning to use the tool. This will allow me to make sure they have a clear plan in
place. This step is important in their preparation and helps keep their focus on the task.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you are
focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation, or Multiple
Means of Action & Expression.

This lesson focuses on the UDL principle of Multiple Means of Action and Expression. By allowing students to
choose their topics and express their understanding through videos, I can incorporate diverse learning styles
and abilities. Being able to record, edit, and add annotations allows students to display their knowledge
creatively and effectively. All of these features help to accommodate learners with different abilities.

Reflection: After designing this lesson idea, how do you feel the activities you created will impact student
learning? What part of the lesson do you look forward to implementing with students? Explain why.

I would be excited to implement this lesson because it allows students to take control of their learning in a
creative way. This project not only encourages deeper understanding of the content but also works on their
digital literacy skills. I think students would enjoy using their creativity to ‘teach’ about the topic. I would be
curious to see how they support each other in learning both the subject matter and the technology. I believe
that moving to a higher level of Bloom’s Taxonomy, such as “creating,” will have a significant impact on
student motivation because they will be actively participating in their learning.
