0. ISO 11124 "Preparation of Steel Substrates Before Appication of Paints and Related Products
Specifications for non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives". (Preparation of Steel Surfaces before
Application of Paints and Similar Products for Mechanical Cleaning with Non-Metallic Abrasives)

6. Definitions

For the purposes of this specification, the following definitions are established:

6.1 Abrasive

It is a generally solid substance in particle form used to clean a metallic or non-metallic surface and
produces an anchor profile when it is impacted under pressure on the surface by means of a device.

6.2 Topcoat

It is the outer layer of a coating system. It provides additional resistance, helping to protect the
primary and intermediate coating from the environment and the action of chemical substances.

6.3 Environment

The physical environment surrounding the metal surface to be protected.

6.4 Humid environment.

It is the one that predominates in geographic zones whose annual average relative humidity is 60% or
higher.
6.5 Humid environment, with or without salinity and sulfur-derived gases, among other
contaminants.

Particular Technical “Refinery in Dos Bocas”

Specification Project:

The one that predominates in Petrochemical Complexes, Refineries and areas up to 10

kilometers around them, with salinity conditions and acid gases.
6.6 Humid and saline environment.
It is the one that predominates in geographic zones whose average annual relative humidity
is higher than 60%, with sea breeze, as well as those located at a distance of 10 kilometers
from the coast.
6.7 Marine environment.
Predominant in installations located on the surface of the sea, such as structures, equipment
and storage tanks of marine platforms.
6.8 Dry environment.
It is the one that predominates in geographical areas whose average annual relative
humidity is less than 60%.
6.9 Applicator
A natural person with at least 3 years of certifiable experience in the application of
anticorrosive coatings.
6.10 Self priming
Coating with anticorrosive properties that functions as a primer and as a topcoat, which is
tolerant for surfaces with low preparation.
6.11 High temperature
Conditions existing at the surface of equipment or materials operating at temperatures from
533" to 833° K (260° C a 560° C).
6.12 Exposure conditions
Environment where the installation to be protected is located.
6.13 Visible pollution
These are all those contaminants that can be seen at first sight, found on the surface to be
treated, such as oxide, mill scale, old paint, grease, oil or any other foreign material.
6.14 Non visible pollution
These are all contaminants that are not visible to the human eye, such as chloride salts,
soluble iron salts and sulfates.
