Roll No : 2K24/CRM/95
Teacher In-charge : Azmeera Qureshi
Subject : Computer Skills
Assignment Topics : Types of cables and types of ports.
Types of Cables:
There are numerous types of cables used for various purposes, including:
1. Coaxial Cable: Typically used for transmitting cable television
signals, internet connectivity, and other data communications.
2. Twisted Pair Cable: Commonly used in Ethernet networks, with
variations like Cat5, Cat6, and Cat7, each offering different levels of
performance and bandwidth.
3. Fiber Optic Cable: Utilized for high-speed data transmission over
long distances, often in telecommunications networks and internet
infrastructure.
4. USB Cable: Used to connect various devices to computers, such as
printers, external hard drives, smartphones, and cameras.
5. HDMI Cable: Primarily used for connecting audio/video devices
like TVs, monitors, and gaming consoles to other devices like Blu-
ray players, laptops, or gaming systems.
6. Power Cables: These cables transmit electrical power from a power
source to devices and appliances. Examples include AC power cords
and DC power cables.
7. Audio Cables: Include cables like RCA cables, XLR cables, and
3.5mm audio cables, used for connecting audio equipment like
speakers, microphones, and musical instruments.
8. DisplayPort Cable: Similar to HDMI, it's used for transmitting
audio and video signals from computers to monitors, projectors, and
other display devices.
9. Thunderbolt Cable: Used for high-speed data transfer and
connecting peripherals like external hard drives, monitors, and
docking stations to computers.
10. Ethernet Cable: Primarily used for wired network
connections, providing internet access and local network
connectivity to computers, routers, and other network devices.
Types of Ports:
Ports come in various types, each serving different purposes and
functionalities. Here are some common types of ports:
1. USB Port (Universal Serial Bus): Used for connecting peripherals
such as keyboards, mice, printers, external hard drives, and
smartphones to computers and other devices. USB ports come in
different versions, such as USB-A, USB-B, USB-C, and Micro-USB.
2. HDMI Port (High-Definition Multimedia Interface): Found on
TVs, monitors, laptops, and other multimedia devices, HDMI ports
transmit high-definition audio and video signals.
3. Ethernet Port: Also known as RJ-45 ports, these are used for wired
network connections, providing internet access and local area
network (LAN) connectivity.
4. Audio Ports: Include various types such as 3.5mm audio jacks, used
for connecting headphones, microphones, speakers, and other audio
devices to computers, smartphones, and audio equipment.
5. DisplayPort: Similar to HDMI, DisplayPort is used for transmitting
audio and video signals from computers to monitors, projectors, and
other display devices.
6. Thunderbolt Port: Provides high-speed data transfer and can carry
both video and audio signals. It's commonly found on computers and
peripherals like external hard drives and monitors.
7. VGA Port (Video Graphics Array): Older analog video port used
primarily for connecting monitors to computers, though it's becoming
less common with the rise of digital interfaces like HDMI and
DisplayPort.
8. DVI Port (Digital Visual Interface): Like VGA, DVI is used for
connecting monitors to computers but offers a digital connection,
providing higher-quality video output.
9. Serial Port: Though less common today, serial ports were once
widely used for connecting peripherals like mice, keyboards, and
printers to computers. They're still used in some specialized
industrial and scientific equipment.
10. Parallel Port: Another older type of port, parallel ports were
used for connecting printers and other peripherals to computers,
transmitting data in parallel (several bits at once). They've largely
been replaced by USB and network printing.
