Preliminaries A. Prayer
Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!
Please stand up and let us pray. In the name of the Father, the
Son and the Holy
Spirit…..AMEN

B. Maintaining Cleanliness
Please pick up pieces of papers in the floor and arrange
your chairs properly.

C. Checking of Attendance Ma’am, there is no absent today.

Say present if you are here.

Very Good!
A. Reviewing
previous Class, before we proceed to our discussion. Let us

presenting the
new lesson Direction: Illustrate the problem using a Venn
Diagram.
(3 min)
A veterinarian surveys 30 of his patrons. He
discovers that 14 have dogs, 10 have cats, and 5
have fish. Four have dogs and cats, 3 have dogs
and fish, and one has a cat and fish. If no one has
all three kinds of pets, how many patrons have
none of these pets?

B. Establishing Activity 1: “THUMBS UP, THUMS DOWN!”

the purpose of
the lesson
(Teacher will present a presentation using a
powerpoint)
Directions: Guess the picture. Make a thumbs up sign
(5 mins.) if the first picture affects the second one and make a
thumbs down if not.

1. Planting, Harvesting ANSWER:

1. THUMBS UP
2. THUMBS DOWN
3. THUMBS UP
4. THUMBS DOWN
5. THUMBS UP

2. Drawing a card, spinning

a wheel
3. Untied shoes, a child slipped

4. A woman drinking a coffee, a man swimming in

the beach

5. Raining, playing badminton outside

Very good!

C. Presenting (The teacher will post two problems and let the learners
examples/ analyze and differentiate the problems)

the new Situation 1: Consider a bowl that contains 3 mentos, 4 flat
tops, and 5 frutos. A candy is drawn at random and listed and
lesson
then put back inside the bowl`. Then another ball is drawn at
random. Find the probability that
a. The first is flat tops and the second is frutos

Situation 2: Consider a bowl that contains 3 mentos, 4 flat

tops, and 5 frutos. Suppose that two candy are drawn one after
(3 mins.) the other without putting back the first ball. Find the
probability that
a. the first is mentos and the second is flat tops

(The teacher will ask two students to demonstrate the two

situation)

Guide Question: a. In situation 1, we put back

a. Compare the process of getting the probabilities in the first candy that was
each situation above drawn. While in situation
b. In situation 1, is the probability of obtaining the 2, we didn’t put back the
second candy affected by the first candy? What about first candy drawn.
in situation 2? b. No
c. What conclusion can you make about events Yes
happening in the given situations above? How are
c. In situation 1, the first event

does not affect the outcome of the
second event. While in situation 2,
the first event does affect the
outcome of the second event.
D. Discussing Among the situation above, which do you think is an
new concepts example of independent events or dependent events?
and practicing
new skills #1 How do you say so?

Nice idea. Okay, let’s see if you are correct.

(3 mins.)
Example 1:
Event A is tossing a coin and event B is rolling a die to No, ma’am. Even if we tossed a
get a 6. The question is, when I tossed a coin and then coin, nothing will change in the
roll a die, does the outcome of the first event affect the probability of getting a 6.
outcome of second event.

Is this an independent or dependent event? Independent event.

Therefore, independent event is what? To know that, I

have here three jumbled phrases. You need to arrange
it. Two events are independent if the
occurrence of one of the events
Phrase 1: does not affect the occurrence of the other does not affect the occurrence of
events the other events.
Phrase 2: Two events are independent if
Phrase 3: the occurrence of one of the events

Please read the definition, Eli.

Very Good, that’s the concept of independent events.

Now, that we know what independent event is, let’s

now discover what is dependent event.

Example 2:

A box of chocolate contains 10 milk chocolates, 8 dark

chocolates, and 6 white chocolates. Hanissa randomly
chooses a chocolate, eats it, and then randomly
chooses another chocolate. What is the probability that
Hanissa choose a milk chocolate, and then, a white
chocolate?

Why do you think this is an example of dependent She eats the chocolate meaning
event? there is no replacement and this
will affect the outcome of the
next event.

Very Good, therefore, what is dependent events?

I have here again jumbled phrases.

Two events are dependent

Phrase 1: when the outcome of one when the outcome of one
Phrase 2: Two events are dependent event affects the outcome
Phrase 3: event affects the outcome of another event. of another event.

Everybody, please read the definition.

Now that we are done discussing on how to identify
independent and dependent event. Let’s have an
activity.

E. Developing Activity: Think & Act

Very Good, class! Let’s take a moment to appreciate the

effort and hard work you’ve put into your performance.
Everyone, give yourselves a round of applause.

F. Finding Direction: Tell whether the following pair of events are

practical independent. Write (IE) if the event is independent and Answer:

3. Drawing two cards from a standard deck of cards
(5 mins.) one card after another without replacement
4. The skies went dark and then a piece of chalk fell.
5. Drawing a face card from a standard deck of cards,
returning it, and drawing another numbered card

G. Making Activity: Reflection

generalization
s and Direction: Answer the following.
abstractions
about the
lesson
(3 min.)
H. Evaluating Direction: Determine whether the events are independent
learning or dependent.

1. A bag of beans contains 10 Patani seeds, 6 Kasoy

seeds, 7 Cacao seeds, and 5 Langka seeds. What is the
probability of randomly choosing a patani seed, replacing
(5 mins.) it, randomly choosing another patani, replacing it, and
then randomly choosing a langka seed?

2. Rene and Cris went to a grocery store to buy drinks.

They chose from 10 different brands of juice drinks, 6
different brands of carbonated drinks, and 3 different
brands of mineral water. What is the probability that Rene
and Cris both chose juice drinks, if Rene randomly chose
first and drink the first brand he picked up?

3. A bag contains 6 black marbles, 9 blue marbles, 4

yellow marbles, and 2 green marbles. A marble is
randomly selected, replaced, and a second marble is
randomly selected. Find the probability of selecting a
black marble, then a yellow marble.

4. A box of candies contains 10 yema candies, 8

sampaloc candies, and 6 bucayo candies. Eduardo
randomly chooses a candy, eats it, and then randomly
chooses another candy. What is the probability that
Eduardo chose a yema candy, and then, a sampaloc
candy?

5. Nick has 4 black pens, 3blue pens, and 2 red pens in

his school bag. Nick randomly picks two pens out of his
school bag. What is the probability that Nick picked two
blue pens, if he replaced the first pen back in his school
bag before picking a second pen?

I. Additional For your assignment, answer this in a ½ sheet of paper.

activities for Follow up Assignment:
application or
remediation
Create 2 situations illustrating independent events and 2
situations for dependent events.

B. Study:
1. How is the probability of independents event calculated?

2. How is the probability of dependents event calculated?

Okay class, do you understand? Take down your assignment? Yes ma’am!

That concludes today's discussion. I'm looking forward to

seeing you at the next meeting. Goodbye class. Goodbye ma’am. Thank you for
teaching us today. See you around!
