Cautions in connecting pipes

(1) Generally, use Teflon cushion type gasket to connect flanges. If the gasket made of asbestos used in
the carbon steel pipes for piping is used, a crevice corrosion will occur on the wrap joint surface
because chloride ion contained in the gasket liquates out. So, evade using asbestos gaskets.

(2) In general, plate uni-chrome on iron flanges and bolts.

(3) When connecting, set a gasket in the center of the pipe axis and tighten the bolts evenly.

Applying cements In principle, use liquid gasket.

Tape seal can be used around devices.
Use Palker Tape No.20 or equivalents for tape sealing.

Area to apply liquid gasket The method to wind a tape seal.

Do not apply liquid gasket to one or two threads from the tip. Wind the tape seal overlapping about 10mm
Just apply to two or three threads.

Do not apply flux in this area (3 to 5mm).

Pipe and surface processing

If the pipe end is deformed, adjust it to a perfect circle using a dedicated tool.

Pretreatment

Use liquid type flux. Use flux only in the case where copper pipes and other copper alloys
Applying flux such as valves are connected (it is unnecessary for connecting copper pipes and copper
joints).

After insertion, turn the pipe one or two times to make flux pervade evenly. Insert the pipe
until it reaches the stopper of the joint. Wipe out the excessive flux.

Use neutral flames of oxygen, acetylene, etc. Heat the pipe from the position about 80mm
Heating
distant until the color of the pipe becomes dark red (700-800 ℃).

When the junction area is heated enough, make the flame deoxidized. Make the tip of the
solder bar slightly touch the boundary between the copper pipe and the joint while keeping
Brazing
the distance between the burner and the copper 5-8mm. Melt the solder and make it absorbed
into the boundary.

Aftertreatment
No special aftertreatment is required if no flux is used.
