brackets and align properly before connection to an adjacent pipe or fitting. Supervisor to ensure
adequate number of personnel are assigned to manually lift pipe and that correct manual
handling techniques are used.

 Larger pipes are to be lifted into pipe supports using 2 genie lifts blocks. The 2 genie lifts or chain
blocks are to be used in tandem to ensure that the pipe is lifted as level as possible and load is
shared equally by both. The pipe shall be secured to the genie lifts using rope.

scaffold register. The scaffold shall be designed in such a way to allow chilled water pipe (CHWP)
room to be fitted.

 Using a dead weight plumb line, determine the position of the pipe supports and mark the
concrete accordingly. Refer to the approved shop drawings or manufacturers recommendations
regarding vertical spacing.

 Drill the holes in the shaft for fixing supports.

 Provide pipe anchors and channel supports in position ensuring that all fixings are secure. Locate
anchors and guides on each side of expansion devices.

load of CHWP section within the riser. Ax load of Chwp section is 100 kg. Hang 1-ton chain to
reach pipe work below.

 Position the pipe directly below the lifting position. secure canvas strap around the pipe. Ensure
the canvas strap is double wrapped and choked; this will prevent the strap from slipping. Attach
to the chain block using shackles and ensure the pie is free from any obstruction.

 Position the pipe directly below the lifting position. secure canvas strap around the pipe. Ensure
the canvas strap is double wrapped and choked; this will prevent from slipping. Attach to the

 The surfaces of the treads have to be cleaned before being threaded.

 The sealing material has to be applied homogenously and thoroughly on the external thread,
using only sealing material suitable for the application.

 A film of lubricant should be applied on the surface to be threaded in order to prevent the sealing
material from getting stuck and thus avoid irregularities in the sealing effect.

 Check if all axes of the different threaded joint components are aligned according to the
tolerance.

12.7.1 Welding connection procedure:

In order to ensure that all welding takes place in safe manner, construct welded joints
according to AWS D10.12/D10.12M, using qualified process and welding operators
according to part 1 quality assurance article. the following will be considered:

 The welders to be trained and certified

 The welder must be healthy
 The welder must be trained for safe work i.e toolbox talk etc.

12.7.2.B Equipment:

On site, arc welding is usually carried out with direct current (DC), supplied from diesel
driven generator or Power source. Welding leads and welding return cables are frequently
dragged over rough surface, their insulation should therefore be suitable for resisting fear
and wear.
 The cables and couplings should be examined frequently for defects.
 The part of the cable which connected to the electrode holder should be as flexible as
possible.

 Screens to be used, when necessary, available all the time.
 Avoid welding near flammable materials.
 Checking area before leaving is strongly required.
 Monitoring of the area for gasses will be done.

12.7.2.D TESTING OF WELDED PIPEWORK INSTALLATION:

Testing of welded pipework installation shall be by either destructive of nondestructive

test methods accordance with welding code ASME boiler and pressure vessel code
section ix and ASME B31.9.

 Destructive Testing & examination shall be exactly as detailed under Test for Welder
Qualification.

carried out by a specialist consultant approved by the Consultant accordance to the
project specification and requirements. The specialist consultant shall provide a re-
port on the Radiographic Test on completion of select 10% of welds from each
welder for examination. which has been made which includes interpretative results.
 The radiographs which do not comply with the requirement, shall be unacceptable
& the weld in question shall be re-examined.

If a weld fails the testing requirements, then two additional welds made by the same
operative shall be tested, at no cost to the contract. If both additional welds are
successful then, in the case of destructive testing, the cost of making good shall be at
no cost to the contract.

If either of the two additional welds fails the test requirements, then further tests on other
or all of the welds made by that operative shall be carried out, at the Consultant
discretion.
