A detailed lesson plan in English grade 4

Elements of the story

I. Objectives:
At the end of 40-minutes lesson in English 4, the students should be able to:
a. Analyze a story in terms of its story elements.
b. Demonstrate the understanding of the elements of the story
c. Students will demonstrate by creating own short story

1. Prayer
(the teacher will assign one student to
lead the prayer)

questions as a review for the past
lesson)

Group the students into 5 groups.
Direction: Arrange the jumbled letters
to form the words related to our
topic. Use the clues provided to
answer this activity.

C. Presentation of the lesson


That’s right! And that has something
to do with our topic for today. Which
is
(Teacher will let the students read the Elements of the story
topic.)

D. Lesson Proper:
(The teacher will ask the students on what
they notice when they read stories.) Students answers

Now we will discuss about the elements of the


story.
But first let as read a short story.
(After reading the story the teacher will ask
the following;)

1.What are the encircled words in the story?

The encircled words are the character of the


story. Character

2.What are the highlighted words in the story?


Place and time/ Setting of the story
The highlighted words in the story are the
places and time when the story happened.
They are the setting of the story.
3. What are underlined words in the story?
Plot
The underlined words in the story are the
series of the events that gives the plot of the
story.

In the story, it also includes the conflict and


resolution of the story, where the main
character is facing a problem, and that is the
so-called conflict. The resolution is he
solution of the problem facing of the main
character.

Again what is conflict in the story?


The conflict is the struggle, challenge or the
problem of the main character of the story.
How about the resolution?
The resolution is the solution to the problem
of the main character in the story.
The story has the basic elements and this are
the character, setting and plot. Which include
the conflict and the resolution.
E. Application:

(the teacher will group the students into 4


groups)

Instruction: Read the story carefully and


identify them as to Setting, Character or Plot.

Questions:

6. what is the conflict in the story? Peter doesn't have enough money to buy a

IV. Evaluation: Role Play


The teacher will group the students into two group.
Instruction: Create a story of your own using the different elements of the story such as;
character, Setting, Plot, Conflict and Resolution

V. Assignment:
Instructions: On one whole sheet of paper, create your own story based on your experience with
conflict and resolution, then submit it tomorrow.
Criteria Percentage
Achievement of the objectives 15%
Clarity of the story 10%
Total 25%
