Assignment 1 (5%)
ENGINEERING OVERVIEW

• In your team, find information for the topic assigned from literature
search and interviewing relevant people.

• Interview at least 1 people for their opinion (e.g., engineer, lecturer,


relatives/friends/people working in field of engineering)
– Attach interview questions and their opinion
– Provide proof that you have interviewed them. (e.g. date, time,
venue, pictures)
– You can interview by meeting the person, email or by phone.

• Gather the points and make a PowerPoint presentation on 14 Nov


(Sunday).
(Tips: 10-12 slides)

• Each team will be given 10 min to present and 2-3 min for Q&A.
Everyone must present. (see presentation rubric on evaluation)

• Summarise all the points in a 3-4 pages report and submit on 16 Nov
(Tuesday) . Remember to write down all members’ name.

Leo Hendrik Baekeland
(1863–1944)
The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted Baekeland a patent for a "Method of
making insoluble products of phenol and formaldehyde" on December 7, 1909. Producing hard,
compact, insoluble and infusable condensation products of phenols and formaldehyde marked
the beginning of the modern plastics industry.
