Team information
The Finance team covers finance, procurement, business planning, business management, internal
audit and financial governance. As a result of these activities and its position at the centre, the team
works closely with all directorates within the ORR.

Job Purpose
The Finance team provides financial advice and support in respect of all ORR’s functions. The team
produces the annual resource accounts, monthly management accounts and pays all invoices and
expenses.

As member of the Finance team, the Finance Executive – Apprentice will interact closely
with all ORR’s directorates and several external stakeholders such as suppliers of goods
and services and the National Audit Office and will be responsible for all payments of
expenditure including staff expenses using Oracle Cloud accounting system to complete day
to day tasks.

development.

As a Finance Executive apprentice, you will be working in employment, gaining experience


and working through a Level 4 Professional Accounting Apprenticeship. You will develop
skills that will aid you in the workplace, such as communication, ability to work under
pressure, teamwork and lots more.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will enjoy working in a small and
dynamic team, within a multi-disciplinary organisation, and who is capable of working
simultaneously on a range of issues, balancing priorities as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities, although not exhaustive, will include:

 Ensure the accounts payable and expenses mailboxes are monitored daily, and all
queries and requests are dealt with promptly;
 Checking the coding of invoices in Oracle, ensuring invoices are processed
efficiently;
 Gain authorisation of invoices prompting for goods receipting;
 Participation in twice weekly payment runs, ensuring invoices are processed
promptly and paid within Government’s prompt payment timetable;
 Resolving payment holds;
 Acting as the main point of contact for internal and external customers for general
advice and queries regarding the Purchase to Pay (P2P) area;
 Ensuring purchase orders receipts are matched to invoices correctly;
 Reconciliation of supplier statements;
 Processing the expense claims of ORR employees ensuring completeness and
accuracy of claims;
 Performing month end balance sheet reconciliations;
 Assisting the Financial Accountant with reconciling the VAT suspense account for
monthly VAT return submission;
 Assisting the Financial Controller with month end or year-end reporting as required;
and
 Support matrix working in the finance team and providing cover where necessary

You will be expected to work flexibly across the teams and to take advantage of
opportunities to meet challenges in new areas as business needs develop. You will also be
expected to contribute ideas on how to improve systems and processes.

Development & Learning Outcomes you will gain through on the job training and via
the level 4 apprentice course work and continual assessment will include (but not
exhaustive)

 Gain knowledge and understanding of the core elements of double entry


bookkeeping and accounting standards enable accountants to create and report
financial information to the users of accounts. You will understand and/or
validate the accounting standards for basic accounts preparation and/or the
drafting of financial statements.

 You will develop skills to enable Financial information is created, verified and
reported via a combination of systems and processes. You will develop and be
able be able to understand and evaluate an organisation’s systems and
processes and make recommendations for improvement, as appropriate.

 You will gain awareness of external and internal audit’s function in giving
assurance over these systems and processes.

Mandatory Qualifications  5 GCSEs grade A-C, 4-9 including Maths and English

Apprentice Eligibility: It is important that you are eligible to undertake this


apprenticeship and that you do not already hold a qualification higher than Level 3 (A
levels) within Finance or Accounting or in a related field, as we will not be able to
consider you for this role if you do.

at the pre-sifting stage will then progress to a full sift.
2. Interview
We will assess you against all essential criteria at interview stage.
A test or presentation may be included as part of our assessment for the essential criteria:
The selection process may include a video interview, and/or a second interview. It will
include a test using Excel to test the following criteria

 Highly numerate and be able to work effectively with spreadsheets

Security Vetting

People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard
(BPSS) checks.
