Mid-Year Exam Formula Sheet

(I) FORMULAE
The following formulae will be given on a formula sheet for the mid-year exam.

Distance between two points on a Coordinate Plane

𝑑 = #(𝑥! − 𝑥" )! + (𝑦! − 𝑦" )!

Where (𝑥" , 𝑦" ) and (𝑥! , 𝑦! ) represent two points on a

coordinate plane.

Perimeter and Area of a Square

To find the perimeter 𝑃 of a square, add all

side lengths:
𝑃 = 𝑠 + 𝑠 + 𝑠 + 𝑠 = 4𝑠 𝑠

To find the area 𝐴 of a square, multiply the

𝑠
side length 𝑠 by the width 𝑠:
𝐴 = 𝑙 × 𝑤 = 𝑠 × 𝑠 = 𝑠 !.

Perimeter and Area of a Rectangle

To find the perimeter 𝑃 of a rectangle, add all side lengths:

𝑃 = 𝑤 + 𝑙 + 𝑤 + 𝑙 = 2𝑤 + 2𝑙

To find the area 𝐴 of a rectangle, multiply

the length 𝑙 by the width 𝑤: 𝑤
𝐴=𝑙×𝑤
𝑙

Area of a Parallelogram

The Area 𝐴 of a parallelogram is the

product of a base 𝑏 and its
corresponding height ℎ:

𝐴 = 𝑏ℎ
Area and Circumference of a Circle

The Area 𝐴 of a circle is equal to 𝜋

times the square of the radius 𝑟:
𝐴 = 𝜋𝑟 !

The Circumference 𝐶 is equal to 𝜋

times twice the radius or 𝜋 times the
diameter :
𝐶 = 2𝜋𝑟 or 𝐶 = 𝜋𝑑

Area of a Rhombus or Kite

The Area 𝐴 of a rhombus
or kite is one half the
product of the lengths of
its diagonals, 𝑑! and 𝑑" .
!
𝐴 = " 𝑑! 𝑑"

Area of a Trapezoid
The area 𝐴 of a trapezoid is one half the
product of the height ℎ and the sum of
its bases, 𝑏! and 𝑏" .

!
𝐴 = " ℎ(𝑏! + 𝑏" )

Area of a triangle
The area 𝐴 of a triangle is one half the
product of a base 𝑏 and its
corresponding height ℎ.
