System Analysis:
System analysis is a process of gathering and
interpreting facts. Diagnosing problem and the
information about the railway reservation system
to recommend improvement on the system. It is
problem solving activity that required intensive
communication between the system users and
system developers. System analysis or study is an
important phase of any system development
process. The system is studied to the minutest
detail and analyzed. The system analyst plays the
role of the interrogator and dwells deep into the
system working of the present system. The
system is viewed as a whole and the input to the
system are identified . the outputs from the
organization are traced to the various processes.
system analysis is concerned with becoming
aware of the problem, identifying the relevant
and decisional variables, analyzing and
synthesizing the various factors and determining
an optimal or at least a satisfactory solution or
program or action . a detailed study of the
process must be made by various techniques like
interview ,questionnaires etc.

1.Existing system:
In the existing system the exams are done
only manually but in proposed system we
have to computerized the exams using
application.

 Lack of security of data.

 More man power.
 Time consuming.
 Consumes large volume of pare work.
 Needs manual calculation.
 No direct role for the higher official.
Existing railway reservation system Not
having feature of displaying appropriate
message for events and error which occur
while accessing the system. Proper validation
and session has not been setup by which it
system not able to identify and differentiate
users, so cannot be used appropriately for
multi user enviroment.
This railways reservation system do not able
provide the details making changing in
information and perform administrative task
was not possible while using existing system.

It does not able to provide availability details

to charge details. Making change in
information and perform administrative task
was not possible while using existing system.
It does not able to provide availability detail
to the passenger and system can only be
used.
2. Scope and limitations of existing system:-
Although I have put my best efforts to make
the software flexible. Esay to operate but
limitations cannot be ruled out even by me.
Through the software present a broad range
of options to its users some intricate options
could not be covered into it; partly because
of logistic and partly due to lack of
sophistication. Paucity of time was also
major constraint, thus it was not possible to
make software foolproof and dynamic. Lack
of time also compelled me to ignore some
part such as storing old result of the
candidate etc.

Considerable efforts have made the software

easy to operate even for the people not
related to the filed of computers but is
acknowledged that a layman may find it a bit
problematic at the first instance. The user is
provided help at each step for his
convenience in with the software .

3. Project perspective, features:-

 The existing system is highly manual
involving a lot of paper work and
calculation and therefore may erroneous.
This has lead to inconsistency and
inaccuracy in the maintenance of data.
 The data , which is stored on the proper
only, may be lost ,stolen or destroyed due
to natural calamity like fire and water.
 The existing system is sluggish and
consumes a lot of time causing
inconvenience to customer and the airline
staff.
 Due to manual nature, it is difficult to
update ,delta add or view the data.
 Since the number of passengers have
drastically increased therefore maintaining
and retrieving detailed record of passenger
is extremely difficult.
 An railways has many offices around the
world an obsence of a link between these
offices lead to lack of coordination and
communication.
 The computerization of the reservation
system will reduce a lot paperwork and
load on the airline administrative staff.
 The machine performs all calculations.
Hence chance of error are nil .
 The passenger, reservation, cancellation list
can easily be retrieved and any required
addition, deletion or updation can be
performed.
 The system provides for user-ID
validation, hence unauthorized access is
prevented.

4. Stakeholders:-
 Railways station staff
 Railways conductors
 Railways department administration
 System engineers
 Railways passengers
 ICTA
 Sri lanka government
 Banks
 Internet service providers

5.Requirement Analysis:-

This essay sample on requirement analysis

for railway reservation system provides all
necessary basic info on this matter, including
the most common “for and against”
arguments. Below are the introduction, body
and conclusion parts of this essay.

Railway reservation system requirements

specification table of contents railways
reservation system is an online application
for assisting user or railways manger in
managing reservation in a railways
department . the system would provide basic
set of feature to conduct reservation or
cancellation, train scheduling timing, search
for available reservation, and mange check-
in /checkout processes. The following
document provides the key requirements
specification for the system-get exact
information about trains, available seat,
charges, etc-faster communication.
6. Functional Requirements, performance
requirements, security requirements etc.:-

 Function requirements.
 A desktop application
 System will provide “operator login”
functionality
 System should generate a unique
identification no. for each passenger
that is to differentiate between
passengers with similar bio data.
 System should generate daily report
of ticket booking and cancelation.

 Performance function:-
 User satisfaction:-the system is such
that it stands up the user
expectations.
 Response time:- the response of all
the operation is good . this has been
made possible by careful
programming_
 Error handling:- response to user
error and undesired situations has
been taken care of to ensure that the
system operation without halting_
 Portable:- the software should not
be architecture specifie. It should be
easily transferable to other platforms
if needed.

 Security Requirement:-
The system uses SSL(secured socket layer
) in all transactions that include any
confidential customer information. The
system must automatically log out all
customers after a provide of inactivity.
The system should not leave any cookie
on the customer’s computer containing
the user’s password. The system’s back-
end server shell only be accessible to
authenticated management.
