Preparation of Cold Cream

BACKGROUND

Creams may be defined as the concentration emulsion comes under o/w type or
w/o type. The cold cream is w/o type emulsion. The main principle of cold cream
involves slow evaporation of water which leads to cooling sensation. Borax, bees
wax are used as an emulsifying agent.

Aim: To prepare and submit 20 gm. of cold cream.

REQUIREMENTS

Chemicals:

White bees wax, Liquid Paraffin, Methyl Paraben, Perfume, and Borax.

Apparatus:

Measuring Cylinder (100ml), Beaker (100ml), Stirrer, Thermometer, Water bath.

PROCEDURE

Required quantity of bees wax and liquid paraffin were taken in a beaker and
heated on a water bath up to 70°c to obtain a molten mask (Phase A or Oily phase).

In another beaker take borax, water and heated up to 75°c (Phase B or Aqueous
phase). Mix both the solutions by adding are phase into another phase with
continuous stirring till a cream like consistency.

Add the preservative or methyl Paraben, Perfume and pack it in a suitable


container, label and submit it.

Liquid paraffin
45g

Bees Wax 15g

Borax 1g

Methyl Paraben (preservative) 0.1g

Perfume q.s.

Distilled Water Up to 100

Storage

Store in a cool and dry place in a air tight container.

CONCLUSION

Cold cream is prepared and submitted.
