Abstract:

Deep learning models have demonstrated remarkable success across various domains,
yet their black-box nature often limits their interpretability and trustworthiness.
This research proposes to integrate neurosymbolic reasoning techniques with deep
learning architectures to enhance model transparency and interpretability. By
combining the representational power of neural networks with the symbolic reasoning
capabilities of knowledge graphs, this study aims to develop explainable AI systems
capable of providing human-understandable explanations for their predictions and
decisions.

Introduction:
As deep learning models continue to achieve unprecedented performance in tasks such
as image recognition, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning, the
need for transparent and interpretable AI systems becomes increasingly pressing.
Despite their impressive accuracy, deep neural networks lack explicit mechanisms
for explaining their decisions, posing challenges in critical applications where
trust, accountability, and regulatory compliance are paramount. Neurosymbolic
approaches offer a promising framework for bridging the gap between neural
computation and symbolic reasoning, enabling AI systems to provide coherent and
transparent explanations for their outputs.

Research Objectives:

Investigate the theoretical foundations and computational frameworks for

integrating neural networks with symbolic reasoning techniques, including knowledge
representation, logic inference, and semantic parsing.
Develop novel neurosymbolic architectures capable of encoding and reasoning over
complex, structured knowledge representations, such as knowledge graphs,
ontologies, and semantic networks.
Explore techniques for learning interpretable representations from high-dimensional
data using neural-symbolic hybrid models, including attention mechanisms, sparse
coding, and disentangled feature learning.
Evaluate the performance and interpretability of neurosymbolic models across
diverse AI tasks, including image classification, question answering, commonsense
reasoning, and decision support.
Conduct user studies and qualitative assessments to measure the effectiveness of
neurosymbolic explanations in enhancing human trust, comprehension, and decision-
making in AI systems.
Investigate methods for integrating neurosymbolic reasoning into existing deep
learning frameworks and standardization efforts to facilitate broader adoption and
deployment of explainable AI technologies.
