NOUN
A person, place or thing.

For example: a student, the mall or a


sandwich.
ADJECTIVE
A word that describes a
noun.
…as in great or small,
pretty, white or brown.
Pronoun
A word that replaces a noun in
a sentence.
Verb
A word describing an action,
state or occurrence.
…to read or write, sing,
jump or run.
Adverb
a word used to modify a verb, an
adjective, or another adverb. They
usually, but not always, end in –ly.
…slowly, rapidly, badly or sadly.
There are, however, many common
adverbs that do not end in -ly, such
as again, also, just, never, often, soon,
today, too, very, and well.
Conjunction
A word used to connect
sentences together.
…as in men and women,
wind or weather.

A word used to show a relationship
between the noun and pronoun in a
sentence.
…as in through a window or
under the crown.
Interjection
a word or cry (as “ouch”) expressing
sudden or strong feeling.
…as in oh how stupid, ah,

Noun Challenge
Remember, a noun is the name of
anything, like a school or garden, slide
or swing.
Can you write one noun for

Remember, an adjective describes the
kind of noun. Can you write a suitable
one to go with each of these?
