SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN FOR ENGLISH 9

I. Objectives
Towards the end of the period, the students should be able to:
 identify the different elements of one-act play in “Romeo and
Juliet”,
 share some real-life scenarios related to the story “Romeo and
Juliet; and,
 construct own dialogue of the play based on the theme found
in “Romeo and Juliet”.

Ø Before proceeding to the next topic, ask the following questions
first:
 What was the lesson last meeting?
 Can anyone recall the important things about that particular
lesson?

 Board Work: The students will write on the board any words
that will associate to the word “play”.
B. Lesson Proper

Activity (Watch Me!)

The teacher will divide the class into five groups and let the students
write their reflections on a ½ sheet of paper based on the video
presented.

Analysis
The students will write their reflections based on the question below and
choose one leader to present their outputs to the class.

Abstraction
The teacher will give the students a summary of the story “Romeo and
Juliet” and give them ten minutes to read and study the given material.
One-act play- it is an entire story that must be performed on stage within
a certain amount of time.
-is a play that has only one act in it as opposed to the popular format
involving three or more acts.
Question: Is Romeo and Juliet an example of one-act play? Why or why
not?
Elements of one-act play
Setting- the time and place in which a story is told
Question: What is the setting of the story “Romeo and Juliet”?
Characters- it refer to a person or animal in a story
Question: Who are the main characters of the story?
Conflict- is a struggle between opposing forces
Question: What is the main problem of the story?
Theme- is a central topic, subject, or message of the play
Question: What do you think is the theme of the story?
Plot - the chain of events that make up your story
- One-act play is limited only to one interesting situation
Group 1 will identify the exposition of the story and share to the
class.
Group 2 will point out the rising action of the story share to the
class.
Group 3 will locate the climax of the story share to the class.
Group 4 will pinpoint the falling action of the story share to the
class.
Group 5 will determine the denouement of the story share to the
class.
Suspense and atmosphere- everything that you have seen or
heard on the stage
Dialogue- conversation between two or more people as a feature
of a play
-each line must be crafted carefully to focus on the theme, the
incident, and the character of the protagonist
-one-act plays are not written in paragraph form but rather in
script or lines of dialogue.
Example:

Application
Instruction: The students will create their own dialogue of the story in a
½ sheet of paper based on the theme “love”. It must be at least one
hundred (100) words.

Teamwork-20%

IV. Evaluation (1/4)


Direction: The students will answer the given questions in a ¼ sheet of
paper.

Direction: Read the whole story of Romeo and Juliet and make a
reflection based on the guided questions below.

1. What is the social issue in the play?

3. Are you willing to take your life for someone you love? Why?
