How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an
outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
1. Students will begin by listening to teachers podcast about community workers. The teacher
will provide prompts in podcast that the students will need to address in their podcast.
-Do you know any community workers?
-Where have you seen them?
-What do they do for work?
-Which is your favorite and Why?

2. Students will use their ipad to create a podcast addressing the following prompts above, they
can become as creative as they want including just answering the questions or making it into
a story form of community workers they have met before.
Managing student learning: Students will be hooked from the beginning of the lesson because they
will be having a field trip to meet some of their favorite community workers. With completing and
listening to their peers podcast they will be able to gain some prior knowledge before meeting the
workers on their field trips. Students will need to plan out what they are going to address in their
podcast such as a transcript.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
The audio tool I choose has multiple types of choice. The students can just record with their voice in
an audio clip, or they can make a video to go along with their audio. This is all supported with the
UDL of engagement and optimizing individual choice and autonomy. The students have the choice of
which community worker they get to discuss and share information about.
Reflection:
I think this lesson with bring awareness and share more information to the students about the
different types of community workers and what they do for everyone. I’m the most excited to have
them listen to each other podcast and hear their voices. I think they will gain a lot from this
assignment.
