2 SAP ENGINEERING CONTROL CENTER: OVERVIEW
SAP ECTR is a graphical user interface and a direct interface to the SAP system. The interface integrates
the data and functions of heterogeneous applications in a uniform platform with SAP PLM. The graphical
display of the high level architecture is available in the Operations Guide.
You use SAP ECTR to display and edit SAP objects such as material master records, document info records
and change numbers. The display is similar to a file manager and facilitates easy access to SAP objects.
You can use SAP ECTR to organize and manage SAP objects on a consistent user interface.
2.3 Documentation
The documentation for SAP ECTR is based on three pillars:
Guides
Configuration files
SAP Community Wiki
The three pillars are explained in more detail below.
2.3.1 Guides
The guides are available as PDF files in the installation (accessible in SAP ECTR via Help Display
Documentation) and in the SAP Help Portal.
They map the most important functionalities and settings options in the front end for users and
administrators.

2.3.2 Configuration Files
The configuration files are part of the installation. Many settings can be made in the configuration files by
means of preference variables. The preference variables and their values are documented in the
configuration files themselves and are primarily intended for administrators.
2.4.1 Purposes
The following table describes the general installation sequence for SAP ECTR and contains all available
software units. The scenario to be implemented and the corresponding processes determine which software
units are required.
