Lesson Plan : Teaching Young Learners “ The Hare and the Tortoise”

Class Description : There are a total of 12 students, between them 6 girls and 6 boys all aged 6 to 8.
They have been studying English for 1 year approximately three times a week and they have reached
the level of Kids. It is a class that is taught at around 2:00pm, which means that most students are
attending class after school. It is an engaged and talkative group, full of energy so it is a good idea
Make them stretch and ask them to talk with their classmates about different things, and ask them how
their day was and make them move before the class.

Main Aims: By the end of the session the students will have knowledge about the story and practice
reading in groups and individual

Subsidiary Aim(s):
● Review the story “The hare and the turtle”
● Recognise the main characters of the story
● Work in groups and pairs talking about the story
● Reading strategies aloud and individually

Personal Aims:

Marisol: By the end of the sesion the children will recognise the main characters of the story. I will use
different strategies to engage the students.

Salvador: I want the students to feel engaged with what they have read and also have fun with the
activities proposed.

William: To be understood by the children, so that they can understand the messages coming from the
reading.

Timetable Fit:
The students are starting their first class in Kids 1 . So far, they have some knowledge about reading
strategies and work in groups finding some information about stories.

Materials:

● PowerPoint Presentation
● Zoom tools
● Wordwall
● Puzzle.org

Anticipated Problems:
● Some students may not read very well.
● Some students can be shy and they will not participate.
● Can’t share screen with students
● Children do not like the story.
● Children can not solve the puzzle

Possible Solutions:
● Give a clear definition about the vocabulary and present the main characters of the story.
● Use images related to the story
● Share with them a prepared PowerPoint Document with the activity.
● Send them a link in the chat box that will take them directly to the application.
● With the teacher's help, the puzzle will be solved or be given pictures in order they continue with
the activity.

place?
