What are we going to learn today?
At the end of the lesson, we will learn to:
✓ measure angles with a protractor,
✓ illustrate postulates involving angles;
and
✓ apply postulates on angles in solving
problems involving angles.
Learning Math is
Fun and Easy!
Angle
❑ In geometry, the angle is the
union of two noncollinear rays
with a common endpoint.
Angle
❑ The vertex is the point where
two rays meet.
❑ The legs (sides) are the two rays
𝑩𝑨 and 𝑩𝑪
Angle
❑ The interior of an angle is the area
covered between the two rays, while
the exterior is the area that is not in
the interior.
Angle
❑ Angles are named using the
symbol “∠” followed by the
vertices (the distinct points)
of the angles.
Angle
❑ There are three ways of naming an
angle:
1. Using the coordinate of the
vertex of the ray. Ex: ∠𝑨, ∠𝑪
2. Using the three distinct points
on the angle . Ex: ∠𝑨𝑩𝑪
Angle
❑ There are three ways of naming an
angle:
3. Using a lower case letter
Greek letter or a number.
Ex: ∠𝟏, ∠𝟐, ∠𝜶
Angle
❑ The measure of ∠𝑨𝑩𝑪 is 𝟑𝟎°, in
symbols 𝐦∠𝑨𝑩𝑪 = 𝟑𝟎.
❑ An instrument used to measure
the size of an angle is called a
protractor.

Postulates Involving Angles

Example 2:
Refer to figure 8.13 to
find 𝒎∠𝑬𝑫𝑮.
Example 3:
Refer to figure 8.14. Given 𝒎∠𝑴𝑨𝑲 = 𝟖𝒙,
find the measure of all the three angles.
a. 𝒎∠𝑴𝑨𝑲
b. 𝒎∠𝑴𝑨R
c. 𝒎∠𝑹𝑨𝑲
Postulates Involving Angles

❑ Two angles that sum up to 𝟏𝟖𝟎° are

supplementary.
❑ If the angles are supplementary and
adjacent, then they are a linear pair.

Postulates Involving Angles

❑ Adjacent angles are two angles

sharing a common side and
vertex.
Example 4:
Given that ∠𝑨𝑩𝑫 and ∠𝑫𝑩𝑪 form a
linear pair, find the 𝒎∠𝑨𝑩𝑫.
𝐦∠𝑨𝑩𝑫 + 𝐦∠𝑫𝑩𝑪 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎
𝐦∠𝑨𝑩𝑫 + 𝟑𝟓 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎
𝐦∠𝑨𝑩𝑫 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎 − 𝟑𝟓
𝐦∠𝑨𝑩𝑫 = 𝟏𝟒𝟓
Example 5:
Refer to figure 8.15.
If 𝒎∠𝑳𝑷𝑵 = 𝟏25, 𝒎∠𝟒
= 𝟗𝟎, and 𝒎∠𝟏 = 𝒎∠2,
find the following.
Assume that some
angles form linear pairs.
Example 5:
Refer to figure 8.15. If 𝒎∠𝑳𝑷𝑵
= 𝟏25, 𝒎∠𝟒 = 𝟗𝟎, and 𝒎∠𝟏 = 𝒎∠2, find
the following. Assume that some angles
form linear pairs.
1. 𝒎∠𝟏
2. 𝒎∠3
3. value of z if 𝒎∠𝟓 = 𝟐𝒛
4. 𝒎∠𝑱𝑷𝒀
Exercise 2:
Refer to figure 8.16. If
𝒎∠𝑼𝑨𝑾 = 𝟏𝟏𝟖, 𝒎∠𝟑 = 𝟗𝟎, and 𝒎∠𝟐
= 𝟑𝒎∠𝟏, find the following. Assume
that some angles form linear pairs.
1. 𝒎∠𝟐
2. 𝒎∠1
3. value of k if 𝒎∠𝟒 = 𝟒𝒌
4. 𝒎∠𝑼𝑨𝒁
