1. Definition- it is a technique for locating a phrase and clarifying its meaning. Its main goal is to
define and explain terms, concepts, and problems by providing definitions.

2. Informal Definition- is to accomplished by using a parenthetical or short explanation.

3.Formal Definition-it incorporates the phrase to be defined, the term's general category, and
the trait that sets the term apart from other terms

4.Extended Definition- is a comprehensive definition of a term that typically includes at least

one paragraph

5.Explication –it is a strategy for explaining where phrases, quotes, or paragraphs from a
literary or scholarly work are taken, analyzed, and then thoroughly explained.

6. Clarification- a style of explanation where the ideas are arranged from a broad, abstract
concept to concrete, specific examples.
