Discuss about the west media comment on Tibet clashes and

the way they report the event

Recently, Tibet clashes were noticed by many countries. Many western people do not

agree the measure of China do to the Tibetan. They think that China police treat the

protestor too violence.

In the first article, it mentions many English news media appeal other countries to give

pressure to China, for stopping Beijing subdues Tibetan. Some of the famous newspaper in

England has talked about the event. The Independent said China encourages Han emigrating

to Tibet and intermarriage, to control tourist industry of Tibet. And try to include Tibetan

cultures into Han’s. The article also said China should be responsible for the result of Tibet

clashes. Western leader ought to welcome Dalai Lama to come to their country with the

name of legal leader of Tibet but not religion leader.

We can see that the image of China after this event was very bad. I think the violent

treating is not the main reason. Firstly, I think they are jealousy about the rise of China.

At 1900, Boxer Rebellion was uprose by Chinese. Many westerners were killed. This enrages

the western countries. The relationship between them and China was very bad. And then

Eight-Nation Alliance happened. China lost in the battle and many lands were cut. After the

war, the western deem China is inferior to them. As the times go on, China becomes one of

the strongest countries. China rise to the same level to them. So they are directed against

China. They try to find fault with China if there has a chance. I think the argument of the

western is unreasonable. Compare the violence between the protestor and the police, we can

see the protestor injure many innocent victims. But the police was just hurt the guilty

protestor in order to arrest them. Secondly, Dalai Lama’s supporters think that China is

invading Tibet in this event. 17thOctober, 2007 the United State of America ignores the

opposition of China and confers the Congressional Gold Medal to Dalai Lama. In this case, I

think Dalai Lama is ‘chess’ of USA to challenge China. And Dalai Lama always gives talk in

western, therefore he has many supporters. When he is against with China, then most of

western people stand to his side. For the newspaper of The Independent, it seems that

western people regard intermarriage as despicable strategy. But I think intermarriage is a

very good act. It is because it can make two kinds of people mix into one, and it can

harmonize the people with different cultures. Then they can keep the cultures and prevent

conflict.

In the second article, China government blames the western media about their unreal

report. For example, the picture shows the police ‘carried’ the protestor away, but the

uniform of the police is not Chinese. Or cut the original picture into a part which shows the

police was warning protestor, while the other part is the protestor burning car and

attacking people. Then the readers will misunderstand the police arrest the protestors

unreasonable. After the Tibet clashes few days, a German media recognized their incorrect

reporting.

After reading this article, some readers will be very angry. They may think the western

media is very wicked. They should not smear China. Beside the reason of no countries like

China, the other main reason I think is Chinese government forbid the reporters report the

Tibet clash. But the reporters think all citizen in the world have right to know the event.

Therefore, they used other photo to let the readers illustrate the event. But the showing

partly news pictures are really giving a feeling to me that they attempt to slander China.

Although the Chinese leader and western leader are friendly in the meeting, they may

attack each other in the quiet. In order to show the other is inferior.

In conclusion, the western was picking on China, like criticizing and defaming. I think

China has not done wrong. The protestor is much more violent than the police. The police

has already used the least violent to control the condition. If this event happened in the

west, I think they will do the same thing.

英報評中國鎮壓藏人抗議

英國 各大報 紙發表 文章， 呼籲國 際社會 向中國 施壓， 阻止北 京繼續 鎮壓西 藏的藏 人抗議 活動。

英國報紙普遍認為，北京不能以舉辦奧運為由，而逃脫國際社會對侵犯人權行為的追究。

《每日電訊報》駐北京記者說，以胡錦濤為首的中央政府將不會放鬆對拉薩的統治，而中國當局對西藏抗
議活動的反應也並不令人吃驚。

《獨立報》說，北京鼓勵漢人移居西藏並與藏人通婚的做法，加之其對西藏旅遊業的控制，都是試圖將藏
族文化納入漢文化的做法。

《衛報》記者報道說，1989 年天安門事件的重大影響被當時發生的東歐巨變所淡化，而今天世界目光再次
聚焦在中國。

《泰晤士報》說，"如果中國像前不久緬甸政府殘暴鎮壓本國僧侶民主抗議活動那樣鎮壓發生在西藏的示
威活動，不僅會違背奧林匹克精神，也會招致國際社會的強烈反感。"

文章還說，國際社會應該讓中國為自己的行為負責。西方國家的領導人也應該擯棄懦弱，張開臂膀歡迎
達賴喇嘛作為西藏合法的領導人而不僅僅是宗教和精神領袖來訪。
