Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 8

Learning Competency: Differentiate potential and kinetic energy;

Code: S8FE-Id-22

I. Objectives:
 Identify the energy forms present in the operation of simple toys
 Describe the energy transformations in different toys
 Differentiate potential and kinetic energy
II. Materials: Toys, Powerpoint Presentation
III. References:

IV. Procedure :
A. Engage

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

a.) Greetings: “Good morning, Ma’am!”
“Good morning, class!”

b.) Opening Prayer:

“Okay. Let us all stand up and pray.
May I ask anyone to lead the (The student lead the prayer)
prayer.”

“You may now take your sit.”

c.) Checking of attendance

“The secretary of this class may “Okay, Ma’am!”
give the list of present as well as
the absent after the class. Okay?

d.) Ice Breaker

"I have some toys here on the “Okay, Ma’am”
table. And you will identify each
toy, okay?"

The toys are:

 Yoyo
 Fiction Toy car
 Drum
 Battery Operated toy car
 Spring toy

“But before we proceed, Let us

unlock some difficult terms that
you will encounter in our lesson. I
have here the definition, and you
will guess the word being
described. But take note, the letter
of the word is jumbled.”

1. KINETIC
1. KNTICEI 2. POTENTIAL
Energy possessed by an 3. ENERGY
object due to its motion.
2. PTENTIOAL
It is about the position or
state
3. EGYNER
the ability or capacity to do
work

B. Explore

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

“So Let’s proceed with our activity. And

the title is Little Shop of toys! You will be Group 1 raises their hand
divided into five groups. I will give you 3
minutes to play with it, okay? Now, who
wants to play with this toy (drum)?” Group 2 raises their hand

“Next, who wants this one (Yoyo)?” Group 3 raises their hand

“This Fiction toy car?” Group 4 raises their hand

“Battery Operated Car” Group 5 raises their hand

“Last one is this toy spring?”

“All right! Since you already played the

toys you are holding, we’re going to use
that toys in our lesson.

“But before we proceed, I will read our

objectives first.”

Explain

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

“So, now, I want you to answer these

questions.

1. “What does the toy or object do? “The yo-yo goes back up when you drop
(for example yoyo)” it.”

“That’s right!”

2. “What happens to the energy in “I noticed when I play with this yoyo, the
this toy or object when it's being energy in it changes.”
used?”

“Okay, that’s right!”

“The change in the yo-yo's energy

happens because of the force of
gravity. When I lift the yo-yo, I give
it potential energy by raising it
against gravity. When I let it go,
gravity pulls it downward,
converting that potential energy
into kinetic energy, making it
move. The energy changes
because of how gravity interacts
with the yo-yo.”
3. What type of energy does an
object typically have when you
pick it up or lift it? ‘It generally has potential energy.”

“Very good!”

“When you pick up or lift an

object, it gains potential energy
because it's now at a higher
position relative to the ground.
This potential energy arises from
the force of gravity pulling the
object downward.”

4. “What does the stored energy in “The stored energy typically turns into
the object become when you let it kinetic energy when the object is released
go or set it in motion?” or set in motion.”

“You’re right!”

“When you let the object go or set

it in motion, the stored energy
transforms because the object is
now moving, and this type of
energy is known as kinetic
energy.”

5. “What type of energy does the “When the object stops moving, it typically
object have when it stops has no kinetic energy.”
moving?”

“Very good!”

“When the object stops moving, it

no longer possesses kinetic energy
because kinetic energy is
associated with motion. The
energy has been used and the
object is at rest.”

6. “What caused each object to start “Each object started moving because of a
moving a certain distance, and force or push, and it came to a stop when
what made each object stop?” that force or push wasn't there anymore,
or when something else, like friction,
“Exactly, thank you!” slowed it down.”
Elaborate

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

“Okay, So I will show a picture here.”

“The first archer, Ma’am!”

“Which of the two archers possesses
Potential Energy?”
“The first picture shows potential energy
“Can you explain why?” because the archer has the arrow ready
but hasn't released it yet, meaning there's
stored energy waiting to be turned into
motion when the arrow is let go.”

“Very good!” Then why the second archer “The second archer has kinetic energy
now possesses Kinetic Energy?” because the archer has already released
the arrow, and it's now in motion, showing
the energy of movement.”

“Very good!” So, now, can you “Potential energy is like stored energy
differentiate potential and kinetic energy? waiting to be used, such as a drawn bow
before shooting an arrow. Kinetic energy is
the energy of something already in
motion, like an arrow flying through the
air.”

“Alright! Do you have any questions?” “None”

Evaluate
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
“Are you ready with the quiz?” “Yes, Ma’am!”

“Get ¼ sheet of paper.”

“Okay, so I prepare here 5 questions and

you’re just going to tell whether it is
potential or kinetic energy.”

Questions: Answers:
1. What is the type of energy 1. Potential energy
associated with an object's position 2. Kinetic energy
or condition? 3. Potential energy
2. What is the energy linked to an 4. Potential energy
object's height or its state of 5. Kinetic energy
motion?
3. What energy does an object have
when it is stretched or squeezed?
4. What is the energy an object has
when it is higher up?
5. What energy does an object have
when it is moving?
