Materials:

● 2 pieces of duck egg

● 5 cups of salt
● 3 L of water
● Measuring cups
● 2 plastic container
● Wooden spoon

Procedure:

First, prepare the materials needed. Next, prepare two setups for the experiment.
The first setup should include a piece of a duck egg, 2 cups of salt, and 1.5 liters of
water. The second setup should also include a piece of a duck egg, 3 cups of salt, and
1.5 liters of water. Then, boil the specified amount of salt in water for each setup to
create a saline solution. After that, transfer the solution into a container and gently place
the egg in the saline solution. Allow the egg in the first setup to soak for a week, and the
egg in the second setup to soak for two weeks. Finally, boil the eggs for 15 minutes.

Computations:

First Setup:

Concentration: 2 cups of NaCl; 1.5L of H₂O

cups to moles:

2 𝑐𝑢𝑝𝑠 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙 ( 240𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙

1 𝑐𝑢𝑝 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙 )( 1 𝑚𝑜𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙
58𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙 ) = 8.28 mole NaCl or 8 moles of NaCl
liters to kilograms

1. 5𝐿 𝐻₂𝑂 ( 1 𝑘𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝐻₂𝑂
1 𝐿 𝑜𝑓 𝐻₂𝑂 ) = 1.5 kg of H₂O
molality:

𝑚𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑡𝑒
𝑚 = 𝑘𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑜𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡
8 𝑚𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙
𝑚 = 1.5 𝐿 𝑜𝑓 𝐻₂𝑂

m = 5.3 moles/kg NaCl or 5 moles/kg NaCl

Second Setup:

Concentration: 3 cups of NaCl; 1.5L of H₂O

cups to moles:
3 𝑐𝑢𝑝𝑠 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙 ( 240𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙
1 𝑐𝑢𝑝 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙 )( 1 𝑚𝑜𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙
58𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙 ) = 12.41 mole NaCl or 12 moles of NaCl
liters to kilograms

1. 5𝐿 𝐻₂𝑂 ( 1 𝑘𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝐻₂𝑂
1 𝐿 𝑜𝑓 𝐻₂𝑂 ) = 1.5 kg of H₂O
molality:

𝑚𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑡𝑒
𝑚 = 𝑘𝑔 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑜𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡
12 𝑚𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑁𝑎𝐶𝑙
𝑚 = 1.5 𝐿 𝑜𝑓 𝐻₂𝑂

m = 8 moles/kg NaCl
