Assessment Report of Utility Settlement Marker LUC41004 and LUC41005 Nearby Shaft 2

Introduction

This is assessment report for the utility settlement marker (LUC41004 &
LUC41005) that are showing down trend and reaching to alert level
near Shaft 2 location.

The approved review levels for utility settlement marker are as below:
1) Alert level: 8mm
2) Work suspension level: 12mm

1) Sheet piling work at S2:
3/4/2023 ~ 20/4/2023

2) Shaft 2 idle time:

21/4/2023 ~ 8/5/2023

9/5/2023 ~ 31/5/2023
Instrumentation Plan

Shaft 2
Monitoring Report of LUC41004
• Refer to the IM report of LUC41004, it was noted that the LU reported with a total
settlement of 0.7mm from 2/3/2023 to 2/4/2023. However, there were no
construction activities at Shaft 2 during that period.

• During the sheet piling work at Shaft 2 from 3/4/2023 to 20/4/2023, the LU reported
with a total settlement of 2.8mm, from -0.7mm to -3.5mm. Meanwhile, SPPG
contractor was working close to the LU. Refer to page 9 for details.

• During the JGP work from 9/5/2023 to 31/5/2023, the LU reported with a total
settlement of 2mm, from -5.2mm to -7.2mm.

• It was observed that a total settlement of 1.7mm from 20/4/2023 to 9/5/2023.

However, there were no construction activities been carried out at shaft 2 during that
period.

• Thus, the total settlement of LU caused by Shaft 2 construction activities is 4.8mm.

Monitoring Report of LUC41005
• Refer to the IM report of LUC41005, it was noted that the LU reported with a
total settlement of 3.8mm from 2/3/2023 to 2/4/2023. However, there were no
construction activities at Shaft 2 during that period.

• During the sheet piling work at Shaft 2 from 3/4/2023 to 20/4/2023, the LU
reported with a total settlement of 1mm, from -3.8mm to -4.8mm. Meanwhile,
SPPG contractor was working close to the LU. Refer to page 9 for details.

• During the JGP work from 9/5/2023 to 31/5/2023, the LU reported with a total
heaving of 0.7mm, from -6.4mm to -5.7mm.

• It was observed that a total settlement of 1.6mm from 20/4/2023 to 9/5/2023.

However, there were no construction activities been carried out at shaft 2 during
that period.

• Thus, the total settlement of LU caused by Shaft 2 construction activities is

1.9mm.
Construction Activity Carried Out by SPPG Contractor nearby Shaft 2
SPPG contractor was working close to the vicinity of the above mentioned LU as record
below:
1) HDD pit excavation commenced on 20/3/2023 and backfilled on 28/3/2023.
2) HDD work starting from 21/3/2023 to 27/3/2023.
3) Hacking of rigid pavement & extracting of steel plate from 4/4/2023 to 12/4/2023.
Subsequent Action
• Propose to re-initialize settlement reading before commencement of
shaft excavation work in order to capture the actual settlement
caused by excavation work.
