God Bless Us, Teachers

By: Venus T. Veloria

Lord, be Thou our pattern in honing and molding souls,

In dealing with human minds, in forming character
Give us well-balanced minds, patience as educators,
These are the traits that should be possessed by a teacher.

The spirit that we cherish will be easily felt.

Shouldn’t be easily provoked and irritated,
Hard-headedness in love and kindness we need to melt,
Not with anger and punishment pupils be treated.

Very little pleasantness have been shown them at home,

Few words of approval been spoken to these children.
That’s why in school teacher’s actions and words should be foamed,
With encouragements and praise, they be silver-laden.

Teacher’s education and knowledge in sciences,

These couldn’t ascertain that they have tact and wisdom.
Disciplining harshly leave heartaches, scars, and bruises,
Sharp words and continual censure will not be winsome.

Great hearts with unconditional love should be drawn out,

Not only for those with characters favorable,
Every potential of every child should be called out,
Even for those with characters objectionable.

Not even one of our students be overlooked,

Like a straying sheep and a lamb that’s left not succored
We should see to it that in every corner and nook,
All are learning and the fear to try will be conquered.

It is noble thing to teach and blessed thing to learn.

Take upon ourselves mastery of every subject.
Not to be content with old, new knowledge be discerned,
Success and future of our students be our object.
