Different Financial Products
Saving the finance method of setting aside a certain amount of money or a portion of an
income for a specified period resulting in an accumulated sum called savings.
▪ Savings account - used to deposit or withdraw money. Many Filipinos today, including the
youth, can open a savings account in a bank of their choice.

▪ Checking account - an instrument given by the bank to the depositor in the form of a
checkbook. Money or cash is deposited in the depositor's current account, and withdrawal is
in the form of checks.

▪ Time deposits - saving deposits that cannot be withdrawn over a fixed period. Interest earned
is higher than a saving deposit.

▪ Pension plan - saving intended for expected retirement, usually at the age of 56 for military
personnel, 60 for employees in private companies, and it is mandatory at 65 and optional at
60 for government employees.

▪ Written contract between the creditor and the borrower - This

stipulates the amount of loan, interest rate, period of payment,
penalties and surcharges, and other related information.

▪ Ledger - This is a book containing accounts to which credits and

debits are recorded. It is sometimes used informally in retailing by
owners, for instance, of a sari-sari store. A ledger can be used to
