DM REPORTING (Group 5)

INTRODUCTION: Micka
LEAN SUPPLY CHAIN Daniela

 Ang focus ng Lean Supply Chain is to get the right amount of materials para ibigay
yung gusto ng isang customer, exactly when they need it. Because of Lean Supply
Chain, yung mga businesses nakakatulong sila to eliminate waste, this means getting
rid of anything that doesn’t add value to the product, such as excessive inventory,
unnecessary transportation, or waiting times. Nag focus din siya sa customer value,
kung saan mas inaalam nila or to have an understanding kung ano yung mga needs ng
customers and para ma meet yung mga needs na yun ng customer by using lean
supply chain. This approach to supply chain management supports eliminating waste
in the manufacturing process. It ensures that end customers receive exactly what they
need, thus maximizing customer value and reducing associated costs.
Advantages or benefits of using Lean Supply Chain: Kerwin
1. Reduced Cost- by eliminating waste, yung mga companies na gumagamit ng
Lean Supply Chain mas nakaka save sila ng money on storage, transportation,
and materials.
2. Customer Satisfaction- Maintaining a lean supply chain
also significantly impacts securing repeat
customers. Efficient supply chains that deliver
products on time and as expected can create
satisfied customers and foster mutually respectful
relationships.
3. Increased Responsiveness- yung mga companies na gumagamit ng Lean mas
nakakapag react sila agad sa nga changes ng customer in terms of demand.
4. Improved Quality- nag focus siya on continuous improvement so mas na
lelessen yung defects and mas more on quality products.
Disadvantages of using Lean Supply Chain: Kerwin
(Kahit basahin nalang ppt at wag na explain)
Examples of lean supply chain: Micka
1. TOYOTA- one of the best examples na gumagamit ng lean supply chain is
yung TOYOTA. Bakit? Their production is all about getting rid of wastes.
They focused on automating several processes to lower human error and
recheck product quality. Then, they implemented the just-in-time (JIT) model,
aims to produce only what is needed, when it is needed, and in the exact
quantity needed. JIT helps companies minimize inventory and reduce
waste, while also improving efficiency and responsiveness to customer
demand. Nag sstart lang sila gawin yung isang n product kapag in demand
lang siya. Na control nila yung inventory levels and prevented overproduction.
So by focusing on efficiency and eliminating waste, mas nakakapag produce
sila high quality cars and nakakapag respond agad sila sa needs ng customers.
2. NIKE- same with toyota pero for shoes, nike uses Lean Supply Chain. They
minimize waste by keeping materials na kaialngan lang nila and kumukuha
lang sila materials exactly kung kailangan lang talaga nila. They also use lean
methods in factories to reduce defects and make things more efficient. The
benefit for Nike is lower costs, potentially better quality shoes, and maybe
even faster delivery times.
AGILE SUPPLY CHAIN: Daniela

 From the word itself “agile” meaning is mabilis or speed and efficiency. So an agile
supply chain is focused sa speed, costs, efficiency, responsiveness, flexibility, and
productivity sa production ng delivery ng mga goods. Mga companies na gumagamit
ng agile supply chain is nakaka adjust agad sila sa production or delivery based sa
gusto ng mga customers. The goal is to be responsive and keep up with ever-changing
customer demands.
Advantages of using Agile Supply Chain: Kerwin
1. Responds faster to customer needs- company can quickly adjust what they
make and how they deliver it based on what customers actually want, rather
than just following a pre set plan.
2. Adapts to disruptions- ito yung mga unexpected events katulad ng material
shortages or transportation delays, so meaning mas mahahandle siya ng
maayos or smoothly kapag ginamit mo yung method na agile.
3. Faster product launches- agile processes can help companies bring new
products to market quicker by streamlining development and production.
Disadvantages of using Agile Supply Chain: Daniela
1. Higher costs- keeping multiple suppliers, using smaller batches, and being
adaptable can sometimes be more expensive than a lean approach.
2. Complexity- sa pag manage ng isang agile supply chain, nag rerequire siya
ng good communication, coordination, and syempre para maka adapt
kailangan din ng new technologies to track changes and para maging smooth
yung supply chain.
3. Potential for overreactions- with a constant focus on adapting sa changes,
may mga risks din sa mga companies na nag ooverreact to every little shift or
pagbabago sa mga trends.

Examples of Agile Supply Chain: Micka

1. ZARA and H&M- we are all familiar naman sa dalawang brands na ‘to and
kung paano sila nakakapag adapt sa changes ng wants and trends ng
customers when it comes to clothes. They are known for their fast fashion
approach. Because of agile supply chain, yung zara and h&m mas nakakapag
react agad sila sa kung ano yung mga hot or trends and mas mapapansin natin
na meron agad sa stores nila yun. For examples, isang celebrity may sinuot
siya ng isang certain style, they can adapt their production to meet this sudden
surge in demand. Unlike traditional clothing companies na nag pproduce ng
large quantities in advance, so yung zara and h&m nag pproduce lang sila ng
smaller batches. This agility allows them to test new designs and adjust
production based on customer response, minimizing the risk of getting stuck
with unsold clothes.
Can supply chain be both lean or agile? ( questions para sakanila) Micka
- Yes, pwedeng gamitin both lean and agile supply chain. Pwede yung
nakakapag reduce ka ng waste and costs while keeping up with
customer needs. Depende pa rin naman sa company kung ano mas
effec
Examples of both lean and agile supply chain: Micka
1. Huggies, benetton, and kleenex- they make products with less waste
using lean practices while adapting to changes and meet ever changing
needs of their customer using agile supply chain.

Challenges that affect the logistic and supply chain: kielyn and ronchelle

Challenges that affect LOGISTICS: Kielyn

Logistics- in simple explanation, getting your products from point A to point B
smoothly, efficiently, and at the right time. This involves yung mga steps from storing
and ogranizing supplies to transporting them and making sure that they get delivered
safely.
 Transportation costs- because of high gas prices, inefficient routes, traffic jams,
and choosing the wrong shipping method, ito yung mga challenges na nakaka affect
sa logistics in terms of transportation, kasi we all know naman na pag punta palang sa
iba’t ibang places is magastos na. So yung mga company na humaharap sa gantong
challenges is gumagawa sila ng way like may routing software sila and nag eexplore
sila ng options like using ships or trains, and tracking shipments para maka save sa
money.
 The shortage of delivers- pag hindi enough yung workers, meaning delayed
deliveries or no deliveries so nagiging roadblock siya for deliveries. So yung mga
warehouses and transportation is parang nagiging barado or puno kasi walang nga
workers na kumikilos. Dahil dito, pinapabagal niya lahat and nag ccreate ng delays
and unsatisfied customers. The lack of workers can even cause problems throughout
the entire supply chain, like a shortage of truck drivers stalling deliveries between
different locations. Logistics companies are struggling to find solutions, sometimes
needing to spend more money to attract workers.
 Incorrect and delayed deliveries- Mixed-up orders or warehouse mistakes lead to
delays, wasted resources, and unhappy customers. Yung mga logistic companies, nag
iinvest sila sa mga technologies that could help them like scanners and tracking
devices for accuracy.

Challenges that affect SUPPLY CHAIN: Ronchelle

Supply chain- eto yung from raw materials to suppliers to manufacturers to distributers
to retailers hanggang sa final step which is makarating sa consumer and eventually nag
llead sa demand ng consumer and bumabalik ulit sa cycle or process.
 Unexpected delays- no need to explain na since na explain naman
 Cost control- supply chain cost control involves managing numerous expenses
throughout the process of getting a product from raw materials to the customer like
multiple cost factors since syempre may mga expenses throughout supply chain.
Market fluctuation eto yung mga price hikes and shortages of raw materials.
 Increased freight prices- Higher freight prices directly translate to more money spent on
moving goods, squeezing profit margins. Unreliable deliveries due to high freight costs,
companies might be tempted to hold onto more inventory to avoid stockouts. This,
however, creates a different problem – increased storage costs and the risk of having
outdated products.
Issues and challenges brought by: Tresh
 External environment- mga businesses ngayon, humaharap sila sa maraming
challenges katulad sa mga na mention under external environment. These includes
economic ups and downs na nakakaapekto sa sales, new regulations na nag rerequire
ng adjustments and global events that cause disruptions sa supply chains. Kapag may
mga gantong pangyayari, yung mga company dapat prepared and ready na mag adapt.
 Manufacturing and Supply- eto yung challenges that disrupt productions, like
shortages of materials or na lilimit yung availability ng materials, and na comprise
yung quality ng products.
 Logistics and distribution- this challenge is nag rerevolve siya products na
makarating sa place, at the right time withouts delays, and right cost na hindi
gumagastos masyado ng malaki.
 Retailing- Retail stores are struggling with three major issues. First, meron
competition both from other physical stores and from online retailers. Second, mga
gusto ng customers is nagbabago. Naghahanap na sila ng more sustainable products,
or more convenient sa pag bili which is thru online na. Finally, online shopping,
mostly sa mga tao ngayon mas prefer na nila bumili and mag shopping online which
means fewer people are visiting physical stores. These factors combined make it
challenging for traditional retailers to keep up and make sales.
 Consumer- Consumers are demanding more from businesses: environmentally
friendly products, experiences that cater to their individual needs, and complete
transparency about what they’re buying. This creates challenges for businesses who
need to adapt to meet these evolving consumer expectations.

PRESSURES FOR CHANGE IN THE LOGISTICS AND DISTRIBUTION

OPERATIONS

 Customer expectations (Tresh)- Customer expectations are transforming logistics. They

demand speed, constant order visibility with real-time tracking, and flexible options like
pick-up locations. Sustainability is also a growing concern, forcing logistics companies to
adapt and innovate to meet these evolving needs.
 Globalization (Kerwin)- Globalization complicates logistics with spread-out supply
chains and disruptions, but also opens doors to new markets and cost-effective sourcing.
Efficient logistics are key to navigating both the challenges and opportunities of this
interconnected world.
 Environmental control (Daniela)- Environmental concerns are forcing logistics to clean
up its act. This means reducing its carbon footprint through fuel-efficient vehicles,
optimized routes, and exploring alternative fuels. Warehouses are also getting greener
with energy-saving practices and renewable energy sources. Minimizing waste through
eco-friendly packaging and efficient return processes is another key aspect of
environmental control in logistics.
 Marketing Competition (Micka)- Marketing competition is forcing logistics to be a
selling point, companies are using faster deliveries, order tracking, flexible options, and
even sustainability efforts to win customers and gain an edge over rivals. In short, good
logistics are becoming good marketing.
 Demand variability (Ronchelle)- Demand variability, or unpredictable swings in
customer buying, is a headache for logistics. It makes it tough to keep the right amount of
stock on hand, plan production effectively, and size the logistics operation appropriately.
 Evolving consumer behavior (kielyn)- Evolving consumer behavior is a major force
reshaping logistics. Today’s customers demand faster deliveries, with options like same-
day fulfillment. They crave constant visibility into their orders, wanting real-time
tracking. Convenience is key too, with flexible delivery windows and pick-up locations
becoming an expectation. Finally, sustainability is a growing concern, pushing logistics to
adopt eco-friendly practices. In short, customers are in the driver’s seat, forcing logistics
to adapt and innovate to meet their ever-changing needs.
 Collaborative supply chains (tresh)- Traditionally, different stages of the supply chain
(e.g., manufacturers, distributors, retailers) operated independently. Now, there's a push
for information sharing and closer coordination. This allows for faster responses to
disruptions, better inventory management, and ultimately, a smoother flow of goods from
origin to end customer.

The effects of pressures of change in the key issues and challenges in logistics, distribution,
and supply chain:

 Adaptability to market dynamics (Ronchelle)- In today’s dynamic market, supply

chains need to be adaptable. This means anticipating changes and having flexible
systems in place to adjust quickly. Companies can achieve this through a diverse
supplier network, adaptable inventory, scalable transportation, and most importantly,
data-driven decision making based on real-time information. This ensures a resilient
supply chain that can deliver efficiently even in a constantly changing environment.
 Sustainability integration (Kerwin)- this involves yung pag gamit ng mga eco-
friendly transportation, sourcing from responsible suppliers, anf minimizing
packaging. Iniimprove niya yung company’s environmental impact, brand image, and
potentially can save money. Pero this requires investment and plannjng.
 Technological advancement (Ronchelle)- Technological advancements are
transforming logistics. The Internet of Things provides real-time tracking and data for
better visibility. Automation with robots and potentially self-driving vehicles
increases efficiency. AI and machine learning help with better decision-making and a
more adaptable supply chain. This translates to faster deliveries, lower costs, and a
potentially greener operation.
 Innovation control ( Tresh )- It’s about encouraging new ideas from everyone to
improve efficiency, cut costs, and keep customers happy. The process involves
gathering ideas, carefully evaluating them, planning how to implement the best ones,
and then measuring their success.
