SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 2

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the appropriate demonstrative pronouns in a
sentence, (This/That)
b. Use demonstrative pronouns in a sentence (This/That)
c. Show respect for one’s belongings.

II. Subject Matter:


a. Topic: Using Demonstrative Pronouns (This/That)
b. References: K to 12 CG in English 2, LM pp.247-249;
c. Materials: real objects, charts, pictures, boxes with objects inside
d. Values Integration: Cooperation and Respect for one’s belonging
e. Methodology: Cooperative learning.

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities

 Prayer
 Greetings
 Energizer
 Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation

• Provide each group with pictures. Let them find the words scattered on the table that
named the picture. The first group who could find it first will be the winner.

C. Lesson Proper
 Show pictures to the pupils.
 Have the pupils read the sentences after the teacher.
 Introduce THIS and THAT are called DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS

(Have the students read the sentences after me.)


 The teacher shows concrete examples using this and that in a sentence.
 Say: What demonstrative pronoun is used when the speaker is near a person,
object, or thing? {This }
 What demonstrative pronoun is used when pointing to one person, object, or thing
far from the speaker? {That }

D. Application
The teacher will divide the class into 2 groups. Let them answer it collaboratively. Each
group will have 2 activities to answer. The group who will have the highest score will
win a prize.

Activity 1 – This or That!


Choose the correct answer.
1. This or That ______ is a classroom. (Pointing to a classroom)
2. This or That ______ is a broom. (Holding a broom)
3. This or That ______ is a sandwich. (Holding a sandwich)
4. This or That ______ is a butterfly. (Pointing to a butterfly)

Activity 2 – Pick Me!


Five group members will take turns going in front and trying to finish the picture
sentence using This or That by picking from the box.

E. Generalization
Quickly review the lesson by asking the students questions:
1. What do we use if we are holding something?
2. What do we use if we are pointing something?
3. Why do we need to use THIS and THAT?
IV. Evaluation
Directions: Write This or That to complete the sentence.

1. ________ hat is big for me.

2. ________ is a falling star.

3. ________ is a sandwich.

4. ________ is a heavy book bag.

5. ________ is a bird.
V. Assignment
Directions: Cut out 3 pictures that use the demonstrative pronouns this and that and write
a short sentence about the picture.
