APA In-Text Citations with

Multiple Authors

There are two formats in writing In-Text
citations
Two formats of writing in-text citation

1. Parenthetical In-Text Citation


this citation typically consist of the author’s last name(s), year of
publication, and page number in parenthesis at the end of the sentence.
Example:
“This is a direct citation” (Chapman, 2019, p. 126)

2. Narrative In-Text Citation


the author’s name appears in the sentence and not in parenthesis.
Interwine the author as a part of the sentence with the dateof publication.
Example:
Walters (2003)
Number of authors to include in in-text
citations
The format of the author elementof the in-text citation changes
depending on the number of authors and is abbreviated in some
cases:
● For a work with one or two authors, include the author name(s)
in every citation
● For a work with three or more authorsinclude the name of only
the first author plus “etal.” in every citation (even the first
citation)
