Reflection on Annotated Bibliography

Several important choices influenced my selection of sources for the research paper on
marijuana legalization, which included creating an annotated bibliography. Above all, I tried to
incorporate a variety of viewpoints to make sure that readers had a thorough grasp of the
subject. This required taking into account sources that supported legalization, opposed it, and
offered unbiased analysis. I tried to provide a complex and fair analysis of the topic by
combining a range of perspectives.
I critically evaluated the sources' suitability and accuracy by looking at things like the
information's relevance to my research assignment, the author's or organization's reliability, and
the publication date. For example, when assessing the Drug Policy Alliance's source, I took into
account any potential biases and recognized that the information was coming from
organizations with a certain goal, therefore I needed to study it critically. In addition, I evaluated
the methodology and caliber of the research in order to determine the academic rigor of studies
such as the one conducted by Hazekamp and Fischedick.
Finding a variety of sources, including news stories, advocacy materials, and scientific
publications and research studies, was made possible by the efficient use of the library research
approach. The approach comprised looking through scholarly papers, investigating reliable
websites, and conducting online database searches. Using terms like "marijuana legalization,"
"cannabis policy," and "medical marijuana" produced a wide range of results, which is what
made this search effective. To improve future searches, though, I would think about trying with
different search phrases and honing my query to focus on more specialized parts of the subject.
I used the advice in Everyone's an Author, especially in Chapter 24 on evaluative
bibliography, as I assessed each source for the annotated bibliography. The procedure
comprised evaluating the information's dependability, the writers' qualifications, and any
potential biases or restrictions in each source. For instance, I took into account the Pew
Research Center's dedication to methodological rigor and its reputation for doing objective
research when evaluating its source.
Ultimately, the contemplation of my cognitive procedures during the creation of the
annotated bibliography emphasizes the significance of critical thinking, a wide variety of
sources, and a fair assessment of viewpoints. Through the use of a metacognitive method, I
was able to successfully negotiate the topic's intricacies and make sure that my research
included a variety of reliable, pertinent, and interesting sources.
