Port Description
General overview
Yangshan is a new deep water container port, comprising three areas: Yangshan wharves, Donghai Bridge (East China Sea Bridge) and the
supplementary Luchao Port Logistics Park on the mainland. The port, which lies on reclaimed land, will eventually have 30 deep water berths and is
aimed at relieving congestion in Shanghai port. The 32km Donghai road bridge connects the island to the mainland and is the longest cross-sea bridge in
the world.
Phases 1 and 2 are complete and operational and include 9 berths, a quay frontage of 3km. Phase 3 includes an additional 7 container berths along a
further 1.6km of quay length, extending the total quay length to 5.6km and boosting the annual capacity by an additional 2,000,000TEU. Feeder vessels
of 350TEU will run a container shuttle service between Yantian and Waigaoqiao at 8 hourly intervals.
The port has a fully automated container terminal, or the fourth phase of the Yangshan Port project-part of Shanghai Port-has been designed to handle
a maximum of 6.3 million TEU (20-foot equivalent unit), making it the largest automation port worldwide to date. Its unique energy consumption
structure should result in zero carbon dioxide or other emissions.
There is also a new LNG berth and China Terminals oil jetties, with large storage facilities, at Shenjiawan, a small island close E of Yangshan Island.
Location
Yangshan is located to the SE of Shanghai, 72km from the Yangtze River Estuary.
Max size
Largest Container Vessel visiting port: "OOCL Hong Kong" (LOA399.87m, Beam 58.2m, 191,422DWT).
LNG Vessels: Draught 12.0m.
Oil Terminal: Tankers up to 125,000DWT.
Traffic figures
Approx 143,000,000t of cargo, 16,500,000TEU and 13,000 vessels handled annually.

Port Description
General overview
Prince Rupert is the second largest port on the W coast of Canada and includes the Ridley Island terminals. The port area is a large, deep, natural
harbour with a min depth in the approach channel of 38m, has easy access and is well lit with year round ice free navigation.
Prince Rupert is the ocean terminus of the trans continental rail and highway systems. It is the pivotal point for BC and Alaskan Ferries and is the
regional focus of fishing, forestry, mining and pulp manufacturing.
Exports handled are aluminium ingots, waste paper, scrap steel, chilled fish and poultry, forest products, coal and grain, imports handled are general
cargo, containers and oil.
The port is soon to have its own marine fuel delivery service, serving larger vessels, operated by Wolverine Terminals. This will mean that larger vessels
berthing alongside, or anchoring in the harbour area, will no longer have to bunker at alternative West Coast ports.
Several major projects for development of industrial and energy-related port facilities in the area have recently been put on hold, or cancelled
altogether, mainly as a result of uncertainty caused by an ever changing situation in global energy and economic developments. However, the Ridley
Island Propane Export Terminal is currently being constructed and the planned Pembina LPG Terminal, Watson Island, is still on course for development.
There has also been an additional boost with an encouraging increase in cruise liner traffic and passenger visits.
Location
Prince Rupert is situated at the N end of the Hecate Strait with Queen Charlotte Island to the W.
Max size
Bulk Carrier: "Cape Rainbow". LOA300m, Beam 50m, 207,886DWT. Arrival Draught 8.6m (Max Draught 18.23m).
Container Vessel: "COSCO Belgium". LOA365.9m, Beam 51.2m, 156,605DWT. Arrival Draught 12.6m (Max Draught 15.5m).
Passenger Cruise Vessel: "Crystal Serenity". LOA250m, Beam 32.2m, 10,810DWT. Arrival Draught 7.5m.
The Ridley Terminal is capable to taking vessels LOA 325m, beam 50m, draught 22.0m, approx 250,000DWT.
Currently there are no restriction for maximum size in the port but the inner harbour anchorages (Nos 2 to 7) are restricted LOA 250m or less.
Traffic figures
Approx 18,923,265t of cargo, 736,663 TEU, 90,274 cruise passengers and 1,046 vessels handled annually.
