Maidaan box office collection day 11: Ajay Devgn's film surpasses Akshay Kumar's
action flick with Rs 3.25 Crore.
Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s much-anticipated action spectacle, Bade Miyan Chote
Miyan, which was poised as the marquee Eid release, has failed to demonstrate
significant growth in its second week. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the
film amassed Rs 2.50 crore on Sunday, elevating its total domestic earnings to Rs
55.55 crore. Globally, the film has garnered Rs 90.5 crore.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan accrued Rs 49.9 crore in its inaugural week. However, its
box office returns dwindled on Friday with a mere collection of Rs 1.4 crore.
Despite the weekend surge, the film failed to showcase substantial growth, logging
Rs 1.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 2.50 crore on Sunday.
While featuring two of Bollywood’s prominent action stars, the film has struggled
to convert its pre-release hype into substantial revenue. Though it outperforms its
contemporary, Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan, the film’s sluggish performance raises
concerns, particularly considering its lavish budget of Rs 350 crore, casting doubt
on the potential for a profitable return on investment.
On the other hand, Maidaan, headlined by Ajay Devgn, has benefitted from positive
word-of-mouth promotion among audiences. Surpassing Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s Sunday
earnings, it garnered Rs 3.25 crore at the box office, bringing its total domestic
earnings to Rs 35.70 crore. Globally, the film has accumulated Rs 45.65 crore.
Despite some promise, Maidaan, crafted with a budget of Rs 150 crore, has also
failed to meet expectations. According to trade experts both films will post
losses, with many conservatively pegging them over Rs 100 crore.
Both films faced stiff competition not only from each other but also from Vidya
Balan and Pratik Gandhi’s Do Aur Do Pyaar and Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2, released the
previous week. Despite sluggish beginnings, favourable reviews and word-of-mouth
endorsements are driving slight growth for the Vidya Balan film.

Akshay Kumar’s fees, lacklustre promotions hurt film: Report
Bollywood producer and film business expert Girish Johar broke down the failure of
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan. In a recent interview with Business Today, he
attributed their failure to the poor quality of content and the growing competition
from OTT platforms. He said, “Yes, people are staying away. The reasons are around
quality of content, expensive tickets, IPL, OTT and the general elections. Bade
Miya Chote Miyan was a bad film and Maidaan has been in the works for top long. I
don’t think we’ve had a more unproductive Eid at the Hindi box-office.”
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, acclaimed for his work in Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda
Hai, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan faced off against Amit Sharma’s Maidaan, known for his
previous directorial Badhaai Ho.
