Low access to freshwater and safe water has been one of the major problems that is faced in

the Philippines (Khairiyah et.al, 2020). Many people have been using some bodies of water

such as saltwater, rivers, waterfalls as their drinking or cleaning water because they believe

that it is safer. However, some components of it doesn’t even qualify as one safe ingredient to

use for drinking or cleaning. According to the statistics of California-Great Basin, there are

97% of earth’s water is found in the ocean which is too salty for drinking and supporting

livestock and only 3% of water is found on earth as a freshwater with 2% of it being frozen

(). This proves that saltwater or any bodies of water cannot be an alternative as a freshwater

and only 1% is shared by both humans and livestock. The researchers then created a device

that conserves saltwater to be used as freshwaters using electricity that is conducted by

saltwater as well.

II. Background and Problem

Low access to freshwater and safe water has been one of the major

problems that is faced in the Philippines (Khairiyah et.al, 2020).

Many people have been using some bodies of water such as

saltwater, rivers, waterfalls as their drinking or cleaning water

because they believe that it is safer. However, some components of

it doesn’t even qualify as one safe ingredient to use for drinking or

cleaning. According to the statistics of California-Great Basin,

there are 97% of earth’s water is found in the ocean which is too

salty for drinking and supporting livestock and only 3% of water is

found on earth as a freshwater with 2% of it being frozen (). This

proves that saltwater or any bodies of water cannot be an

alternative as a freshwater and only 1% is shared by both humans

and livestock. Having low access of freshwater especially during

dry seasons may affect living things in our country, such as plants,

people, and other things that needs high content of freshwaters.

The researchers then created a device that conserves saltwater,

rivers, waterfalls, and other kinds of bodies of waters to be used as

freshwaters using electricity that is conducted by saltwater as well.

III. Beneficiaries

The people who live under bridges or squatter areas and families

who lives in islands with unlimited supply of saltwater with low

access of fresh and safe water and farmers and other people who

takes care of the livestock are some that will benefit in using this

device.

IV. Proposed Solution

Electrolysis in water or also known as electromechanical water

splitting is separating components of saltwater, rivers, and other

bodies of water using electricity. The researchers then taught of

making a device that separates the components of saltwater and

other bodies of water to get the ordinary water in order to have

freshwaters. This study also conserves saltwater because it will be

used in both making a freshwater and the electricity to make the

electrolysis process work. Water wheel will be the main material

used in this in order to get the source water which are several

types of bodies of water. This study aims to increase stocks of

freshwaters in order to have enough for both humans and

livestock. It is expected for this study to help people who has low

access of water and some farmers in order to make sure that their
livestock are safe. With this study, the rate of freshwater needed to

achieve the balanced and fair water for both livestock and humans

will increase. This study is also more efficient because we will be

using saltwater which is known for unlimited water access in the

earth
