PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The organization that I will be sharing about is the Bluegrass Army Depot in
Richmond, KY. This organization as a whole is a storage depot for both conventional and
chemical weapons. My role in this was an explosives inspector and the struggle involved
to destroy the chemical weapons in the time frame given.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

Being that this position was ultimately ran by the US Government, it did have its
short falls in the way we operated day to day. Companies often find people they want to hire
that often fit the mold for what they are looking for (Bolman, 2021). I think this is why the
majority of our teams were made up of prior military.

Although my direct management did a good job of training and investing in us as

indivudals and as a team, we lacked funding the majority of the time so we had to be creative
in how we trained. I did feel at times that upper management tried to push for a faster and
more efficient operation but when dealing with something that requires safety this cannot be
the most important thing. Many employees felt unsafe because of the push from management
to get more done in a smaller amount of time.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

I think that I would invest more money and time in to training individuals so that the job
could be done just as safely but at a faster pace which is ultimately what upper
management wanted. In many cases, I think days were slower because of the safety

1
concern of what we were doing. If management took the approach of ensuring safety first
and then worrying about efficiency, I think we could have completed the project quicker.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

In my postion I didn’t have much of a say so in how things would go on a

day to day basis but I do feel that I could have spoke up more about the need for
proper training and a better look into the safety we needed to have not only on an
individual basis but also as a team. I would also recommened that we have more
breaks inbetween weapons movements because that always seemed to be a
complaint that others had.

I think that most people that worked in my position would feel the same in
regards to safety concerns and more training. At the end of the day, everyone just
wanted to make it home to their families and at times this didn’t seem like a
concern for upper management. I also would have liked to have had upper
management come out to our worksite and watch what we do so they would fully
understand all the steps in the process and why it is a time consuming operation.
