Drafting papers
In Anne Lamott's essay, "Shitty First Drafts," I learned that drafting papers is often a
messy and imperfect process. Lamott emphasizes the importance of writing poorly at the initial
stage of drafting. This is because it is a necessary step in the writing process to generate ideas
and overcome possible challenges in the advanced stage of writing (Lamott, 2005).
Lamott's concept of writing a paper does differ from the traditional notion of producing a
perfect first draft. It is evident that Lamott encourages a more forgiving and liberating approach
where writers are allowed to write badly initially, with the understanding that revision and
improvement will follow. This differs from the common belief that writing should be polished
from the start.
Lamott's way of writing can be beneficial in projects by relieving the pressure of
perfection in the initial draft. It can help writers overcome writer's block and perfectionism,
making it easier to get ideas on paper. This approach can lead to more creativity and freedom in
the writing process, as it allows for mistakes and imperfections in the early stages, which can be
refined later during the revision process.
