Introduction to addition and subtractions with double digits (2nd grade)

Relevant SC Standards:

1.NSBT.4 Add through 99 using concrete models, drawings, and strategies based on
place value to: a. add a two-digit number and a one-digit number, understanding that
sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten (regroup); b. add a two-digit number and a
multiple of 10.

1.NSBT.6 Subtract a multiple of 10 from a larger multiple of 10, both in the range 10 to
90, using concrete models, drawings, and strategies based on place value

Description: These apps will help the students ensure they understand adding and
subtracting double digit numbers in a fun manner. These activities also give me and the
parents a visual of how the student is doing in their math skills.

Instructional Objective: Students will be able to confidently add and subtract double
digit numbers.

Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will play the game on the lowest
level for at least 10-15 minutes, moving up the levels to ensure they are comprehending.

Step 2 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will practice their addition and
subtraction on the app via counting, revealing what they get right and wrong throughout

Step 3 Creation-Based (Learning Artifact) or Skill-Based App (Screenshot of


Progress): Students will use the flash cards and write in their own answers, giving me
(the teacher) feedback on how they do as well as showing their work. As well as send me

shown below)
