INTASC Standard #8: Instructional Strategies.

The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage

learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills
to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
Reflection and Rationale:
These two artifacts are lesson plans that showcase the variety of teaching strategies that I
employ in the classroom. In the first artifact, I use a co-teaching method. In this case, I was able
to use another teacher to effectively reduce the class size and create two smaller groups. This
improved the teacher-to-student ratio effectively improving the ability of the teacher to adapt the
lesson to the diverse needs of the students. In this particular case, the students were placed into
three different groups. The second artifact demonstrates my use of a variety of teaching methods
(highlighted in bold) this can also be seen if you look at any of my other lesson plans throughout
this website, where each instructional strategy is written in bold. These lesson plans demonstrate
the variety of instructional strategies that I use to facilitate student’s deep understanding and
growth in content knowledge.
