Introduction

Bricks are small rectangular blocks that can be used to form parts of buildings,
typically their walls. Bricks are most typically made from clay, although they
are also commonly made from calcium-silicate and concrete.

There are many different types of brick and these are categorized in various
ways.

The dimensions and shape of the bricks are important factors in ensuring the
quality and structural integrity of the masonry construction. Bricks that are not
uniform in size and shape can cause problems such as wall unevenness, leaks
and cracks. The standard size of a brick varies by country or region, the Iraqi
standard for hard brick size specifies dimensions of 24 cm (length) x 11.5 cm
(width) x 7.5 cm (depth). This is slightly larger than the common modular tables
used in the United States.

The shape of the brick should be square with sharp straight edges. Chipped,
chipped, or cracked bricks shall not be used in construction.

Dimension Checks the Iraqi Standard lists the acceptable tolerances for each
dimension:

Length: ± 3%

Width: ± 3%

thickness: ± 4%

Bricks outside these tolerances are not recommended for construction.

Dimension and shape testing in brick is very important because walls are
assured and construction errors are minimized, improving building integrity and
load bearing control.

Aim Objective:

Our aim in this experiment is to check the bricks by determining the

measurement volume, dimensional measurements and rectangular
squares to compare with the limits of the Iraqi standard specifications.

Apparatus:

 Bricks
 Tape measurement

Test Procedure:

The test of brick dimensions can be determined in a group of 24

bricks either in two groups (12 bricks per group) or three groups (8
bricks per group).

We used two groups (12 bricks each) in this experiment for length
measurements, and one group for width and thickness (24 bricks).

The test steps are as follows:

1. Take twenty-four bricks to measure the mean dimensions at

random.

2. Arrange the tables side by side in length, width, and thickness.

3. Measure the length, width, and depth for the 24 tables listed for
each of the three cases using a tape measure.

4. Calculate the length, width and thickness of each brick and

compare it with the Iraqi standard .

Discussion:

After conducting the experiment and implementing the steps here we

want to discuss our report, the purpose of our experiment was to know
the length, width and height of the brick, we did this through several
steps in the laboratory In doing this test and gave us a good
explanation.
After conducting the test and receiving the data, we must make sure
that our results are acceptable according to the standard we rely on. If
not, why? , in which test we used the) IQS 24-1988( standard.
Here are the results we got in general
[ Length=(21.8cm),Width=(10.12cm) and Height=(5.61cm)
If we look at it after completing the test procedures, our results are
accepted according to the standards, so our test was quite successful.
Although we received the data very well, there may have been some
factors that affected the results of our experiment. That those we felt
could have been these
( Contamination - Presence of cracks or chips - Measuring instrument
- Sample selection )

Conclusion:

I. 1_After conducting the test (Dimensions and shape Test (Brick))

we got several results for the length, width and height of our
bricks that were these. Length = (21.8cm) Width = (10.12cm)
and Height = (5.61cm)

II. The results and data obtained from the experiment were
meaningful
Length = (21.8cm), width = (10.12cm) and height = (5.61cm),
which tells us that our results are acceptable according to the
standard.

III. During our experiment, some factors affected our experiment,

which are as follows ( Contamination - Presence of cracks or
chips - Measuring instrument - Sample selection )
